AUBURN, CA
It was a great night of racing at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn, California, on Friday night. Billy Janniro (14, above) continued to rule the Scratch program at Fast Fridays with another impressive win in Friday night's Division One Scratch main event. Getting an exceptionally good gate out of lane one as the tapes went up, Janniro got inside of Tommy Hedden in turn one and led from start to finish, taking his eighth Scratch main-event win in nine weeks of racing in Auburn this season. Janniro looked back over his shoulder several times to check the positions of Hedden, Bart Bast and Charlie Venegas as he cruised to another victory. Hedden gave a good chase but couldn't pass Janniro and finished second. Bast was third, and Venegas finished fourth.
Janniro appears to be at the top of his game as the racing program at Fast Fridays picks up with some great upcoming events. On July 9, the annual and very popular North vs. South Civil War Challenge rolls into Fast Fridays, and on July 23 the first round of the 2010 National Speedway Championship will be staged at Auburn's Gold Country Fairgrounds.
A very excited Daniel Faria (105, above) of Roseville found his way to the top of the podium for the first time this year, taking first in the Division One Handicap main event. Faria, son of speedway great Mike Faria, is in his fourth year of speedway racing and has perfected his style, winning the Handicap main convincingly.
"I really wanted to win, and I did what I had to do to win, and tonight it's working," said Faria.
Off the zero line, Faria held off veteran Hedden, who finished second, and Bast, who took third.
Colfax's Thomas Reich (112, above) said goodbye to Division Two with a win in the main event on Friday night. In his first year of racing out of the youth divisions, Reich has worked his way through Division Three, and Friday's Division Two main-event win from the 30-yard line moves Reich into Division One next week. Division Three was won by Billy Vaughn.
Auburn's own Tyler Warren (25, above) continued to shine in the Division One Youth division with another win Friday night, making it six main-event wins so far this season. Warren has been on a winning streak and each week continues to be impressive.
"I changed my sprocket down to a 69, and that seems to have made a difference," said Warren.
The 15-year-old is in his last year of Youth riding and has his sights set on competing on the 500cc bikes next season.
Jimmy Lewis won the popular Run What U Brung division.
