AUBURN, CA
Billy Janniro (below, leading) continued his winning ways, claiming the title of "fastest man of the night" for another week at the Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway at Auburn's Gold Country Fairgrounds track. The confident Janniro, using his savvy racing skills and gutsy moves, raced to victory against a talented field in the Division One Scratch main event, winning Friday night's deciding race.
Drawing outside lane four, Janniro lined up at the tapes against Auburn's Tommy Hedden in lane three, Scott Brant in lane two, and last year's Fast Fridays track champion, Charlie Venegas (above, following Janniro), in the inside lane one. Venegas got a good gate and won the inside lane at turn one and did his best to keep Janniro outside for a couple of laps. Janniro, just outside of Venegas in the thicker part of the track, had the speed to pass Venegas outside and hold off all challenges from the tenacious Venegas to win the night's final contest. Venegas held on for second, Brant was third and Hedden fourth. Winning six of this season's seven Division One Scratch main events, Janniro is nearly unbeatable, as he continues to be the man to beat each week at Fast Friday's.
"It's one week at a time," said Janniro. "That's all you can do: Get into the main and try to win."
Bryan Yarrow got on the winners' podium for the first time this season, winning the Division One Handicap main event. Off the 40-yard line, Yarrow was impressive against Hedden (who was also racing off the 40), who finished, second and Janniro (coming from the 60-yard line), who finished third.
Colfax's Thomas Reich (112, above) won the Division Two main event and continues to race strongly from the 20-yard line. Matt Drury was second and Danny Turner third.
Andy Gregg, racing at Fast Fridays for the first time and having just taken his rider's test earlier in the evening, won the Division Three main event. With a strong racing background, Gregg gave speedway racing a try, with success! John O'Neill finished second and Billy Parino was third.
Auburn's own Tyler Warren (25, above) won the Youth Division One main event.
