AUBURN, CA
Billy Janniro (14, above) continues to be a dominant force at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn, California, picking up another Division One Scratch main-event win on Friday night. Janniro has been beaten only once in the Scratch main event this season, when he finished second to Scott Brant (10, below) last week. Janniro has tallied five out of six Scratch main-event first-place finishes so far this season. The hard-riding Brant, who continues to challenge Janniro on every turn each week, finished second in the Scratch main, just behind Janniro.
Lining up for the Scratch main after a great night of competitive racing, Charlie Venegas drew lane two, Auburn's own Tommy Hedden was in outside lane four, Brant was inside in lane one, and Janniro was in lane three. When the tapes went up, it was Venegas who got to the inside in turn one first, followed by Janniro up high in the middle of the track that he continued to work perfectly. Venegas held Janniro off for two laps until Janniro worked the thicker part of the track and passed Venegas. Brant continued to trail and also was able to get around Venegas to finish second, behind Janniro. Venegas was third and Hedden fourth. It was once again a very exciting finale filled with arguably the best talent racing at Fast Fridays (minus Auburn's Bart Bast, who did not race Friday night).
Kelly Kerrigan (33, above) won the Division One Handicap main event, notching the first Division One main-event victory of his career. Racing at Fast Fridays for six years, Kerrigan has moved through the Division Three and Division Two ranks to become a skilled Division One rider and proving he belongs.
"Billy, Charlie and I kind of work together, and they have really given me a good perspective on what I need to do," said Kerrigan. "I just keep working at it week after week."
Kerrigan rode off the zero line. J.J. Martynse finished second off the 20-yard line, followed by Hedden in third, riding off the 40-yard line.
It seemed to be a night of firsts, as one of Fast Fridays favorite riders, Tori Hubbert, picked up her first main-event win, taking the checkered flag in Division Two. Hubbert has been racing very well the last few weeks and seems to have turned a corner, winning the Consolation main event last week. She pulled off a thrilling move, passing David Fonts inside on lap four to win the main event. Fonts finished second and Dustin Berdolt finished third.
"I'm tired of being the Consi queen week after week, and I had to go for the main," said Hubbert.
Auburn's Glenn Scott also found his way to the top of the winners' podium for the first time this season, winning the Division Three main event. Finishing second was Robby Northam, and third was Auburn's Billy Parino.
The Division One Youth contest saw Tyler Warren finish first. P.J. Byrne was second and Ryan Vaughn was third.
The sidecar teams from Southern California made their second of four stops at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway and put on a thrilling show, as always. The team of Joe Jones & Jimmy Olsen (13, above) won the main event and raced hard against the team of Joe's brother Dan Jones & Brandi McElroy (foreground).
