AUBURN, CA
Billy Janniro (above) continues to dominate the Scratch program at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway at the Gold Country Fairgrounds in Auburn, California. For the third week in a row, Janniro won the Scratch main event, and again from outside lane four. Start-line lane position and track conditions seem to have little influence on Janniro's ability to get inside by turn one and hold position, fending off some of Fast Fridays' best racing talent.
In the Scratch main event, Janniro again drew lane four, with Charlie Venegas in lane three, Tommy Hedden in lane two, and Scott Brant inside in lane one. Janniro put on a performance similar to those of the last two weeks, taking the checkered flag in the night's top contest. Venegas was in second for most of the race and challenged Janniro on every turn, giving chase and applying pressure, but he couldn't maneuver around the feisty Janniro and had to settle for second place. Hedden, riding well on the rain-soaked track all night, finished third, and Brant finished fourth.
On the Handicap side of the program, Scott Brant (10, above) won his first main event of the 2010 Fast Fridays season. Riding impressively, Brant seems to be finding his groove at Fast Fridays, and fans should look for him to be working his way into the mains in weeks to come.
"I haven't raced full-time since 2004, and since then this is the first time I've raced three weeks in a row," said Brant. "As long as I'm having fun, I'll be here."
Not a newcomer to speedway racing, the Reno resident was the 2003 U.S. National Speedway Champion and hopes to be a regular at Fast Fridays each week this season. Auburn's own Bart Bast finished second, Kelly Kerrigan was third, and Ricky Felicio was fourth.
Sidecar action returned for the first of four season appearances and, as usual, the riders put on an exciting show. The team of Joe Jones & Jimmy Olsen (13, above) won the main event.
Coming on strong and moving up from Division Three, Cody Ciciarelli won Division Two. Second was Danny Turner, and third was Matt Druey.
Division Three was won by Auburn's Billy Parino, followed by Chris Popanz in second. Billy Vaughn was third.
P.J. Byrne won the Youth Division, with Tyler Warren second and Tanner Kane third.
