AUBURN, CA

Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway opened Friday night with a big crowd of fans hungry for racing action, great track conditions, and all the sights and sounds of speedway motorcycle racing action. This was the first night of the 2010 motorcycle speedway season at the Gold County Fairgrounds in Auburn, California. Spectators were treated to some exciting racing action after the long off-season, as riders got out there, shook the dust off, and quickly got down to the business of racing.

Billy Janniro (above) and Bart Bast (below) scored big with wins in the Scratch and Handicap main events, respectively.

In the Scratch main event, Janniro drew the inside lane, next to Kenny Ingalls in lane two, Bast in lane three, and 2009 Fast Fridays track champion Charlie Venegas in the outside lane. When the tapes went up, Janniro got a good gate and was inside before turn one, and Bast slipped in behind him. Venegas found himself just outside, a little high on the track and unable to get inside of Bast or to pass Janniro high on the track on the outside. Janniro held fast and rode perfectly for four laps, holding Bast just behind him on the inside lane, and picking up the his first Scratch main-event win of the new season. Bast finished second, Venegas was third and Ingalls finished fourth.

In the Handicap main event, local rider and crowd favorite Bast was able to hold his ground and, after six laps, take the checkered flag. Bast was racing from the 40-yard line and faced off against 2003 U.S. National Champion rider Scott Brant, also on the 40; Ricky Felicio and Daniel Faria, who were even on the start line; and Janniro, who was way back on the 60-yard line. Janniro worked his way through the heavy traffic, passing almost everyone, but he was unable to take Bast, who held on for the win. Janniro finished second, and Brant finished third.

"I really can't complain - it was a good night," said Bast. "I could have got a better start in the Scratch main, but the Handicap main was great. The track was in good shape."

David Fonts won Division Two. Auburn's own Cody Ciciarelli, moving up from the Junior program, won Division Three. And Auburn's Tyler Warren (25, below) won the Youth Division.
