Janniro Leads All-Stars to Victory

VICTORVILLE, CA

Defending National Champion Billy "The Kid" Janniro was perfect in his five races and led the All-Star Select Team to a 50-40 victory over the Dream Team Select Team.

Janniro opened the match with a preview of the evening by leading a 4-2 heat advantage with a dominant victory. The Dream Team responded with their own 4-2, led by Gino Manzares. Jason Ramirez and Eddie Castro followed that with a 5-1 in the third heat. Manzares was leading the next heat but broke a chain on the final lap and handed a 5-1 to Buck Blair and Josh Abbott that allowed the All-Stars to tie the match at 12.

After heat five produced a drawn heat, Janniro made it two wins in a row in a 4-2 heat. Blair was awarded his second straight heat win after Ramirez fell and brought out the red flag. Manzares and Shaun Harmatiuk won consecutive 3-3 heats before another Janniro-led 4-2 heat staked the All-Stars to a 33-27 lead. Another pair of drawn heats, won by Harmatiuk and Castro, brought the score to 39-33 before heat 13.

Janniro jumped to the front and then ran away from everyone to make the battle of the heat leaders a virtual no-contest. Castro went around the outside of his partner Harmatiuk in an attempt to run down the leader, but it was to no avail, and the 3-3 result virtually locked up the match. Blair and Joey Holt teamed for a 5-1 in the penultimate heat to seal the match for the All-Stars.

In heat 15, Janniro blitzed everyone again and romped to victory ahead of Castro, who passed Harmatiuk on the outside in an effort to catch Janniro but couldn't gain any ground on the leader. Harmatiuk held off Blair for third, and the resulting drawn heat made the final score 50 to 40.

The match was originally supposed to have the complete 2009 Dream Team, but injuries, mechanical issues, and prior commitments meant that only three members of the team were able to compete.

Rick Fehrman passed Gene Stone at the end of lap one in the Second Division main event but had Tim McGrath snapping at his heals. Fehrman fended off McGrath's relentless pressure before McGrath went down in turn four and brought out the red flag. The referee awarded Fehrman the victory. Butch Waymire was second, Stone was third, and McGrath was credited with fourth.

Samuel Ramirez got the best start and raced four smooth laps to score a dominant victory in the Youth main event.

Nicky Reimer came from behind to win the Pee Wee main event.

Erika Lyons was victorious in the Powderpuff main event.

Gerard Jackson & Dave German got the best start in the Sidecar main event, but National Champions Joe Jones & Jimmy Olsen used the momentum gained from the high-banked track to take the lead on the outside entering turn three. Jackson & German pressured the leaders the rest of the way but couldn't find a way past. Jones & Olsen crossed the finish line first, Jackson & German settled for second, and Brian Motis & Chris Leavitt finished third.
