Clan of the Racing Baers

SPRING RUN, PA

Members of the Baer racing clan took a pair of wins as Path Valley hosted its August short-track program. For whatever reason, rider turnout was on the light side.2010 0814 Path Valley Speedway Dallas Baer 34

Things started going well early for the Baers, as Dallas Baer (34, above) took a rather easy win in the opening final of the evening, the Over 40 final. He took the lead from Dave Smith and John Winsett from the get-go and pulled out to a comfortable margin.2010 0814 Path Valley Speedway Evan Baer 64A vs Jake Shoemaker 55A vs Cory Texter 65

As he had done in the Open A heat, Dallas' nephew Evan Baer (64A, above) took the lead from his brother Shawn Baer, Jake Shoemaker (55A) and Cory Texter (65), followed by Travis Diem. Shoemaker moved into second off turn two on the second lap, taking Texter along with him. Shoemaker and Texter began trading second in a closely fought battle that lasted the next several laps. Shoemaker took control of second on his Montgomeryville Cycle Center-sponsored Suzuki on the eighth lap of the extended 12-lap final. Heading into turn three on lap nine, Shoemaker got under a slightly tiring Baer for the lead. Texter then battled Baer for second over the remainder of the race, with Texter taking the spot.2010 0814 Path Valley Speedway Shawn Baer 32 vs Jake Shoemaker 55A vs Cory Texter 65

After having a rather lackluster evening, Shawn Baer (32, above) went to the pits and changed his exhaust pipe around. That made a world of difference, as he put his Don's Kawasaki/Baer Racing Products/Blatts Pattern Shop-sponsored Kawasaki into the Open Sportsman lead, over Jake Shoemaker (55A), Cory Texter (65) and Evan Baer. Texter dived to the inside of Shoemaker on the third lap for second. While the order stayed the same for the rest of the 12 laps, the front three were very close.

Rick Winsett jumped out to the Over 30 lead over Smith, Nick Arment and Roy Miller. Miller was on the move, taking third off turn two on lap two and second going into turn three on the fourth lap. Once there, though, he couldn't catch Winsett.2010 0814 Path Valley Speedway Roy Miller 56 vs Colton Smith 32

Roy Miller (56, left) finally got a good start in the 250 Sportsman final, taking the lead from Colton Smith (32), Tyler Stacey and Matt Trout. Smith stayed very close, but this time age and trickery won out over youthful enthusiasm.

Earlier, Smith had easily won the 125 class, over Jeff Hughes, and the 250 B final, over Trout, Dylan Winsett and Brian Nuse.

With his season-long shadow Nathan Reichert not in attendance, Brandon Price had a rather easy win in the 65 class, over Zack Kolsovsky, Chase Smith and John Winsett III.

In the 85 class, Cameron Smith had a chance to exercise the ponies in his Suzuki and took the lead from Price, Ken Kolsovsky and Chase Smith for the win.
