SPRING RUN, PA

After going two for three in the afternoon's TT event, Colton Smith (32, above) returned to what has been his normal position for the first half of the season: at the front of the 125 and 250 classes. Since this was the second event of three toward qualifying for the Amateur Nationals, some classes were different than the normal local program. Smith topped the 125 Modified and 250 Modified Four-Stroke classes and the 250 Sportsman class, for any 250 machine, on his Smith Brothers Racing/Don's Kawasaki/Triple J Stables-sponsored Kawasakis.

The Modified Four-Stroke contest saw Smith taking the lead from Kevin Bills and Dylan Winsett. At the end of the opening lap, Winsett took second, while Smith pulled away.

The 250 Sportsman clash had Tyler Stacey leading Smith, Devon Gerhart and Jamison Minor. During the middle stages, Stacey and Smith ran side by side, battling for the lead, with Smith taking the point position with an outside-line pass on the sixth lap.

The 125 event was less dramatic, as Smith took the lead from Minor, Matt Trout, Cody Ebersole and Jeff Hughes. Though the riders spread out, the order stayed the same.

Brandon Price took a pair of wins, in the 65 Modified and 85 Modified (7-11) classes. In the 65 final, he took the lead from Nathan Reichert, Zack Kolsovsky and Chris Thomas. They spread out and stayed the same to the end.

The 85 skirmish had Price leading Ken Kolsovsky and then Tristan Avery, who took second on the second lap and pressured Price to the end.

Reichert battled Chase Smith in the 65 DTX final. Smith held a slight lead over Reichert, John Winsett III and Lennie Benson. Reichert stayed close for the first half, until Smith got into a tank-slapper between turns one and two just past halfway. While Smith didn't fall, Reichert took the lead for good.

Jonathan Jordan (29, above) repeated wins in two of the three classes he'd won in the afternoon TT: the 251-500 DTX, over Tyler Phillips, and the 450 Modified, in which he took the lead from Kevin Bills, Jason Cunningham and Justin Johnson. Jordan pulled away while Cunningham stayed close to Bills, and on the final lap Bills drifted slightly high, letting Cunningham by. However, Bills just took the spot at the line.

Jordan's other class was the Open Sportsman class, which had several additions of TT-phobic Rotax riders. One of them, Ricky Winsett (11, above), took the lead from Tyler Stacey (91), Jordan, Tom Majeski (3A) and Evan Baer. Winsett pulled away while the others waged a close battle for second. Majeski put his Rotax into second on the fourth lap. Stacey fell in turn one on the final lap.

Damon Ream (17, above) scored a pair of 50cc wins, in the DTX Chain-Drive (4-8) and DTX Senior (7-8) classes, over Doug Cook (78). Though Cook stayed close in both outings, he couldn't find the steam to get past Ream for the lead.
