Masters Of The Mountains
Round 5: Miller Motorsports Park

Wood Shatters Miller's West Course Middleweight Lap Record

TOOELE, UT2010 0815 Miller Ms Pk Jimmy Wood 371

In top form for Masters Of The Mountains' fifth round, Jimmy Wood (371, above, leading Jesse Sherstan, 999) shattered the middleweight lap record for Miller Motorsports Park's West Course and took a flag-to-flag victory in the premier middleweight race, King Of The Mountain GTU.

Jesse Sherstan was on pole after running a time of 1:32.4 in qualifying, but Wood took the holeshot and didn't look back, laying down a handful of sub-1:30 laps, with a fastest of 1:29.864 - nearly a second and a half under the old middleweight course record.

Wood's impressive new record on his Pirelli-shod Yamaha R6 puts him just a half-second off Jeremy Toye's all-time fastest lap of 1:29.339, set on a superbike in 2009.

"The laps didn't feel that quick, so I didn't really know," said Wood. "My lap timer wasn't working and I just went out and rode, was consistent, didn't make any big mistakes, and didn't push it over the limit. It just felt like a good pace. I came around the third lap, and Kory [Cowan] was hanging over the pit wall with a fist-pump, so I knew something was going on.

"A big thanks to Kory Cowan and Intermountain Racer Supply," Wood added. "Pirelli did really well this weekend. Between Jesse Sherstan, Gerry Signorelli and me, Pirelli won all the Expert 600, 750 and Superbike races."

In addition to Wood's King Of The Mountain GTU victory, he took wins in Middleweight Superstock and Heavyweight Superstock, though he fell while leading King Of The Mountain GTO.2010 0815 Miller Ms Pk Gerry Signorelli 29 vs John Hopperstad 98

While Wood was sweeping the middleweight classes, Gerry Signorelli (29, above, leading John Hopperstad, 98) dominated the Superbike classes, winning the crash-plagued King Of The Mountain GTO race. Starting from fourth on the grid after qualifying, Signorelli ran a clean race and went on to take the win, while Wood, Jeff Stern, Matt Cusumano, Clint Warner, Patrick Lansu and Ryan Brand all had problems. Signorelli also scored wins in Open Superstock and Open Superbike.

"The weekend was great," said Signorelli. "We came away with three wins, although I got handed a gift in GTO. I got a terrible start and had a lot of work to do, but then Jimmy messed up, Cusumano had issues, and Stern got black-flagged - so it was a good race to have a terrible start.2010 0815 Miller Ms Pk Gerry Signorelli 29 vs Ryan Brand 3

"Open Superbike was my best race of the weekend," Signorelli (29, left) continued. "I got to battle with Cusumano, and I held him off. It was tough. Ryan Brand (3) got the holeshot and led. Then Cusumano was the first to get by him. Then I got past Matt. He showed me a wheel in Blackrock, and I passed him back driving out of the corner. Then I just put my head down. The last lap I was riding really defensive, so Matt caught back up, but I was trying to block him. A big thanks to Intermountain Racer Supply, Kory, and BMW Motorcycles of Utah."

For Masters Of The Mountains' sixth round (September 4-5) and seventh round (October 9-10), all reciprocity licensing fees will be waived. Contingency and purses are up for grabs. Come race the best racing facility in North America - Miller Motorsports Park.
