JENNINGS, FL
Sean Dwyer (2, above) was the winningest Expert racer at Jennings GP on this weekend, sweeping the Unlimited classes with five first-place finishes, beginning with the first race of the day, GTO, and ending with an unchallenged run to victory in the Unlimited Grand Prix.
Dwyer nabbed the holeshot in the GTO race. Behind him, Brian Sexton and Greg Gorman were jockeying for position as they worked their way through the first lap of the race. By lap two, Nate Kern had maneuvered through traffic and into second place and was trying to close the gap on the leader. And behind him, Huntley Nash was working his way through the field and closing in on second place. By lap five, Nash was in second, but he could not close the gap on Dwyer, who took the checkered flag without challenge. Nash finished second, with Kern close behind.
Dwyer was out front early in his second race, Unlimited Supersport, and opened up a gap on second place before the end of lap one. Nash grabbed the number-two spot early on while the rest of the field battled for third behind him. Kern had been gridded further back, and he picked his way up to the number-three spot lap by lap. Dwyer maintained his lead to the finish, with Nash and Kern behind again.
Greg Melka took the holeshot in the Heavyweight Supersport race. Dwyer was close behind in second for the first half of the race, but then he took over the lead. An incident on lap five brought the race to an early end. Dwyer was out front at the time of the red flag, so he took his third victory of the day. Melka and Michael Corbino followed.
Dwyer was out front again at the start of the Unlimited Superbike race, with Kern and Gorman chasing him down. Kern and Dwyer broke away from the rest of the field and proceeded to swap positions in a two-way battle for the lead. Dwyer passed Kern exiting turn 10 on the last lap of the race and pulled away, taking the checkered flag, with Kern and Gorman behind.
In the final race of the day, Unlimited Grand Prix, Dwyer didn't get the holeshot, but he did take over the lead before the end of the first lap. Behind him, the battle for second place was raging among Nash, Kern, and Eric Pinson. Dwyer took his last victory of the day without challenge. Nash and Kern rounded off the top three again.
Huntley Nash was the second most winningest Expert of the weekend, with four first-place finishes. Nash dominated the Middleweight classes, winning the GTU, Middleweight Supersport, Middleweight Superbike and Middleweight Grand Prix classes.
Sean Cassell was the winningest Amateur of the weekend, tying Dwyer with five first-place finishes. Cassell dominated the Middleweight classes, taking home first-place trophies in Middleweight Supersport, Heavyweight Supersport, Middleweight Superbike, Heavyweight Superbike and Middleweight Grand Prix. Cassell also finished second, behind Justin Drake, in the GTO class.
