Round 8: Travis County Expo Center

Kirkpatrick Tops at Travis County

AUSTIN, TX

The Travis County Expo Center hosts all types of events, such as the Austin Rodeo, the ROT Motorcycle Rally, and tailgate parties. Travis County allowed TORCS to put on a race at this venue on September 19 and 20, and on teh Friday night before, there was a football tailgate party for the Texas vs. Texas Tech game. The band Korn put on a great concert, and there were motorcycle freestyle shows, all types of vendors, and a car drifting demo, bringing out a lot of new spectators. The supermoto section was a hit with everyone, and a lot of people attempted the awesome tire section.Cole Kirkpatrick 29 at TORCS rd8 2009 0919

One new face in the Pro class was Kawasaki rider Tracy Cloy, who got the holeshot and led some of the first lap before being overtaken by KTM/Moose/FMF-backed Cole Kirkpatrick (29, above, double-jumping the "TORCScross" Monster Tire section). After that, it was a dogfight for positions. On the first lap, behind Kirkpatrick and Cloy was Austin Boney in third, followed by Matt Crouch, Power Bar rider Devon Coetzer, Justin Martin, Caleb Ramsay, Craig Chedsey, Josh Young, Shawn O'Leary and Brian Johnson.

Kirkpatrick and Cloy maintained their first and second spots to the end, but on lap two Crouch took over the third spot from Boney. Ramsey was now in fifth and challenging Boney for fourth. Coetzer had a mechanical problem, and Chedsey got by Martin to move up two spots to sixth. Following Martin now were Young, O'Leary and Johnson.

Boney got passed by Ramsey on the third lap. Crouch held on to the third spot until the fifth lap, when he had problems that dropped him to last; when Crouch dropped out, that put Ramsey in third, with Boney right behind him in fourth. The pack behind this group was catching up, and when Boney and Ramsey took a pit stop, O'Leary, Johnson and Chedsey all got by the both of them.

Now O'Leary was third, Johnson was running fourth, Chedsey was fifth, and Ramsey was now in sixth, with Boney seventh and Young eighth. On the next lap, Ramsey passed all three riders that had gotten by him during his pit stop, but he couldn't shake O'Leary, who stayed close. Then Ramsey had bike problems on the last lap and went from third to eighth, handing O'Leary the last spot on the podium. Boney stayed strong, taking the fourth spot by passing Johnson and Chedsey, who both ran out of steam. Young also got by got by both of them to take the fifth position.
