CROTHERSVILLE, IN
High Fly MX Park is a new motocross track conveniently located east of Interstate 65 in Crothersville, Indiana. Track owner Scott Woolls started construction in the spring, and by midsummer things were taking shape. The track was built with safety in mind, featuring tabletop jumps, and opened for Tuesday and Thursday practices, with races starting in July. The track and facilities are still under ongoing construction, with new improvements all the time. A new scoring/observation tower was recently built, and there are plans to install an in-ground irrigation system to water the track.
Mark Smith (61, above) dominated the Over 30 and Over 40 classes, taking all four moto wins on his Thumper Racing/Fox's Cycle Yamaha. Yamaha pilot Tim Pridemore took the holeshot in both motos of the Over 30 class, but he stalled his bike on the first lap of the first moto, giving the lead to Smith. Yamaha rider Douglas Baker Jr. moved into second place, with Pridemore finishing third. Smith took the lead from Pridemore on the first lap of the second moto, with Baker finishing third.
Smith took the holeshot for wire-to-wire wins in both motos of the Over 40 class. Harold Stalker finished second in both motos, in front of his fellow Kawasaki jockey David Kimbrell.
The Over 40 class ran with the Over 50 class, in which Danny Pridemore scored both moto wins on a Yamaha, in front of Honda rider Bob Lewis. KTM jockey Jerry Barber finished close to Lewis in both motos for third place.
Tyler Kirkman took all four moto wins in the Open B and 250 B classes on an MSR/Bloomington Powersports Kawasaki. Kirkman easily won both 250 B motos, in front of Suzuki jockey Joshua Stalker. Yamaha-mounted Cole Harbstreit took the holeshot in both Open B motos, but Kirkman took the lead on the first lap in the first moto for the win. Harbstreit held on to the lead in a close race with Kirkman that lasted the entire second moto, until he washed out the front end in a turn on the last lap, allowing Kirkman to score the win.
Dylan Clephane took the overall in the 125 B class and both moto wins in the Supermini (12-16) class on a Cycle Outfitters/Dreyer South Honda. Lane Parton took the win in the first moto of the 125 B class on an FMF/Spy Optic-backed KTM. Clephane held off Parton in a close race for the entire second moto before taking the win and the overall.
Stephen Vuckson finished second in both motos of the Supermini (12-16) class on a Honda, in front of Suzuki pilot Austin Perry.
EVS/Scott-backed Taylor Nash took all four moto wins in the 85cc (9-11) and 65cc (7-11) classes, in front of Rev Sport-backed Christian Griffith. KTM rider Erick Vuckson (4-3) placed third in the 65cc (7-11) class, edging out Suzuki rider Dylan Allman (3-4).
