Picone, Keylon Start Off Second Half with Wins


DADE CITY, FL

The best weather in quite a while greeted the riders for round 12 of the Monster Energy Sponsors Cup, which was also round five of the Vortex Lites Championship Series. Warm and dry conditions were the norm for the night. The best five motos have now been counted toward the championship series. The field has tightened up in points, and it is a whole new series heading into the final 10 rounds.2010 0717 Dace City MX Michael Picone 972

In the first moto of the Sponsors Cup, presented by Patriot Chevrolet, it was Kissimmee Motorsports/Fox/Oakley-sponsored Tyler Livesay absconding with the holeshot. Michael Picone (972, above) was second, followed by Kory Keylon, Texas' Michael Kasberg, and Ryan Jessip. Livesay and Picone pulled away on lap two. Moving up to fourth was Jessip. Butler Brothers' Kyle Keylon and Jason Thomas were making their way through the field. By the halfway mark, Picone was hounding Livesay for the lead. Kory was riding a lonely third, while Kyle passed Jessip for fourth. At the checkers, Livesay outlasted Picone. Kory rounded out the podium, and Kyle and Thomas rounded out the top five.

The second moto saw Picone run away with his patented holeshot. Livesay filed into second, followed by Kory, Josh Talmadge, and Smith. The top three pulled a gap on the rest of the field. The rider to watch was Ian Millett, who was coming from the back of the pack. At the checkers, Picone took the win, over Livesay. Kory held on for third, ahead of his brother Kyle. Millett made his way to fifth.

Kissimmee Motorsports' Kyle Keylon (310. above) won the first heat race in the Vortex Lites contest. C.K. Douglas keep him honest in second. Champions Powersports' Kalen Fitzpatrick held off Elite Performance Cycle & Ski's Pup Whatley for third, and Adventure Flex Pack Racing's Eddie Clark was fifth.

The second heat saw Six 12 Suspension's Andrew Stocker lead from start to finish. Mike's Cycle Center's Robert Devonald-Batt was runner-up. Jared Jackson held off R.J. Hampshire for third.

The Vortex Lites main saw Stocker first to the first turn. Keylon was second, followed by Whatley, Devonald-Batt and Jackson. Stocker and Keylon battled for the lead, but by lap three it all came to a stop for Stocker. Keylon took over the lead, with Whatley now second. Devonald-Batt was third, followed by Jackson and Fun Bike Center's Robby Renner. When the checkers flew, Keylon won by seven seconds over Whatley. Devonald-Batt rounded out the podium in third. The battle for fourth tightened up on the last lap, and Jackson, Fitzpatrick and Westbrook crossed the line only a couple of bikelengths apart.

Matthew Lade won the first moto of the 65 (9-11) Beginner class, over Barney's Rocket Racing's Nicolas Rego and Weston Livingston. Tyler Snorek outlasted O'Neal/Scott/Renthal-sponsored Morgan Johnson for fourth.

In the second moto, Rego and Snorek hounded Lade to the checkers. Johnson passed Michael Orlowski on the last lap for fourth.2010 0717 Dace City MX Braden Meyer 821

Adventure Flex Pack Team's Zachary Hart led the first moto of the 85 (7-11) B class. He was followed by Braden Meyer (821, left), Adventure Cycle Center's Tyler Lang, and William Klee. Meyer took the lead halfway through the first lap and never looked back. Hart battled with Lang and Clermont Land & Tree's Travis Rudolph. In the end, Lang took second, over Hart and Rudolph. Klee rounded out the top five.

Meyer took the second-moto win. Rudolph moved up to second, over Hart. Kyle Cheesman got a better start and got fourth, and Klee rounded out the top five.
