District 17 Bonus Points Race/South Fork Dirt Riders Track Championship
Round 5: South Fork Dirt Riders

Summer Camp Ends

TAYLORVILLE, IL

After a week of FCA Motocross Camp and riding with Andrew Short, Ryan Sipes, Sara Whitmore and "Cowboy Kenny" Bartram, it was time for the "campers" to put those new skills to work and go racing! This event was round five of the South Fork Dirt Riders Track Championship, and it was also one of the District 17 Bonus Points Races, bringing out many riders in search of district championships.

One class that was comprised of campers, points chasers and local riders was the 250 C class. This class was the biggest of the day, which made for some great racing. In the first moto, Honda riders Conner Robinson and Travis Johnson set the pace and finished first and second. Alexander Ashworth took his first Yamaha to the first non-Honda spot, in third.2010 0711 South Fork Colby Chaney 185

Robinson took the lead from the start of the second stanza and put in a great ride, taking the moto win and overall victory. Honda rider Cody Willenborg took second. Yamaha rider Colby Chaney (185, above) had had a bad first moto but turned things around with a strong third in the second outing. Second overall went to Johnson and third to Willenborg, making it a Honda sweep of the top four spots, as Honda rider Kyle Baum finished fourth in both motos for fourth overall.2010 0711 South Fork Ryan Walker 133 vs Matt Westlake 12

One oft-overlooked class that had a large turnout on this day was the Over 30 B class. Just because the riders are mostly just out to have some fun doesn't mean that there isn't some great racing. When the gate dropped, Hall's Cycles Husky rider Matt Westlake (12, above) jumped to the front and stayed there to take the moto win. Suzuki rider Ryan Walker (133) was also on the gas, taking second. Honda rider Lee Harrison finished third.

"I usually race hare scrambles but decided to race this motocross," Walker said, and that was a good decision, because in the second moto, Walker had his two-stroke smoking, taking the moto win and overall victory. Westlake tried hard but just could not match his first-moto score and finished second for the moto and overall. The rider with the best seat in the house to watch this battle was Harrison, who finished third for the moto and overall.2010 0711 South Fork Aiden Scroggins 201

In the 50 Junior class, Aidan Roosevans won both motos and overall. Aiden Scroggins (201, right) finished second in both motos and overall. Cobra rider Cade Culp was third in both motos and overall.
