Weyer Whips 'em at CRC Motocross

PALMDALE, CA

Dalton Weyer (2, below), on his Disturbed Designs/O'Neal-backed Honda, was untouchable on the Los Angeles County Raceway's J.B. Memorial Track, as he easily motored away from the rest of the 250 Novices during the California Racing Club's weekly Saturday night motocross.2010 0619 LACR Dalton Weyer 92 vs Thomas Spalliero 151 vs Garrett West 85

Weyer made his intensions clear by jumping out to an immediate lead when the gate dropped in opening-moto action to lead Garrett West (85, above), Ricky West and Thomas Spalliero (151, above). Garrett West went down on the first lap, and Ricky West stalled his bike while trying to avoid him, resulting in both riders resuming the race at the back of the pack.

By the midway point, Weyer had gapped Spalliero by some 15 seconds. Jason Spriggs was now holding down the third spot. As the amount of laps completed grew, so did Weyer's lead, as he greeted the checkers nearly half a minute ahead of Spalliero. Garrett West worked his way back up into a third-place finish, over Spriggs.

Moto two saw Weyer get another great jump off the line to lead Ricky West and Spalliero. Weyer was steadily pulling away from Ricky West during the first half of the moto, until West fell, giving Weyer an insurmountable lead. Weyer was all by himself at the checkers again for a dominating 1-1 showing. Second in the moto went to Ricky West, but it was the 2-3 effort of Spalliero that collected the second-place trophy, over the 3-4 score of Garrett West.2010 0619 LACR Kenny Zahrt 402

Former 1970s National motocross star Kenny Zahrt (402, above) was known for his great starts, and it seems as though as hasn't lost his touch, as he led the Super Senior Amateur field early in moto one. Curt James gated in second place but was overtaken by Roy Krull less than two laps in. Krull gave it his best shot but would end up about 10 seconds behind Zahrt when the checkers waved. James claimed third, followed by Jeff Patey and Bob Dunham.

As expected, it was Zahrt leading the charge out of the gate in moto two, with Patey and Krull trailing. James went down in the first turn and was last. Zahrt was putting a couple of seconds per lap on Patey, who found himself all alone in second place when Krull's Suzuki sputtered to a stop with an empty fuel tank. James was on the gas and was around Patey for second place just after the midway point. A couple of circuits later, James dropped Zahrt back to second place. James got to the checkers first, but it was the 1-2 tally of Zahrt that won the class. James went home with the second-place trophy, over the 4-3 score of Patey.2010 0619 LACR Chris See 749

Chris Bell absconded with the holeshot in the first Pro-class race aboard his 10-year-old YZ250, but he was un able to complete lap one due to problems. Dustin Pulliam inherited the top spot and soon had his hands full with Chris See (749, right), who hounded Pulliam for the remainder of the moto, only to come up a few bikelengths short at the finish. Cory Conner rounded out the top three in his Pro debut.

Pulliam and Conner went at it over the lead in moto two until Connor's Honda broke. See steadily reeled in Pulliam and made the pass with time running out to collect the first-place money on his 2-1 performance.
