Round 7: Screamin' Eagle Motocross Track

Adams Overcomes

FILLMORE, UT

The 250 Junior class at Utah Sport Riders Association MX events is always large - and usually pretty unpredictable. Seldom is it quite as wild and crazy as it was in Fillmore, Utah, on June 12.

Lake Point, Utah's Willis Adams ripped the opening-moto holeshot, leading West Jordan, Utah's Chase Clark, Lehi, Utah, ace Austin Hunsaker and the rest of the pack out onto the course. Seemingly from out of nowhere, Zach Nazzise blasted his way to the front of the pack, as the Riverton, Utah, rider seemed to have more speed than anyone else.

Adams hung tough but was losing ground with every lap, until he dumped his Kawi over a berm on the last lap, gifting second place to Clark. Just as quickly, however, Clark and his Honda also went missing, allowing Benjamin, Utah's Weston Daley and St. George, Utah's Colton Wood to grab second and third, respectively, after a wild last lap.

In moto two, a confident Nazzise roosted his Suzuki to the first turn, with Adams and Dillon Clements giving chase. It looked like an easy romp for Zach until lap two, when he stalled his mount in the big sweeper. You know those wonderful four-strokes: It took him forever to get going again, rejoining the race in seventh. Adams said, "Thank you very much," and took over the lead.

New players came into contention in this jumbled class, as Fillmore's own Clay Davies and Cedar Fork, Utah's Tyrell Ault were in close pursuit of the leader, Adams. In the drag race to the checkers, Adams edged out Davies for the second-moto win. Continuing the craziness, Ault dropped it in the final turn, losing a sure podium position. When the smoke from the calculators cleared, Adam's 5-1 tally bested Clark's 4-3 score, Wood's 3-4 finishes and Daley's 2-10 performances. Lehi, Utah, Suzuki racer Koleton Neilson posted a 6-7 for fifth.

While nothing could be quite as screwy as the 250 Junior race, the Supermini contest still had its own back-and-forth. Tanner Bisco swooped to the opening-moto holeshot on his Kawasaki, as Trinton Thompson and Cody Udovich were chasing close behind. Derek Lema was the man on the move, leapfrogging past riders until he landed in second. That was as far as he would get, however, as the streaking Bisco was laying down a scorching pace. Bisco would cross the line with an easy first-moto win, and then Lema led Thompson and Laramie Payne through the checkers.

A focused Lema nailed the moto-two holeshot, just ahead of Bisco and Udovich. Surprisingly, Bisco's speed was not allowing him to catch Lema, as the front-runner had found something he'd lacked in the first moto. He pulled away steadily until he flew through the checkers with the win - and the overall in the Supermini class. It was a good day for Moab, Utah, however, as Bisco's second overall gave the town the top two finishers. Payne would lead Thompson and Mychal Barber for spots three through five.
