Yamaha-mounted Brian Mullen (822, below) used a 2-1 tally to top the 450 Novice field at Los Angeles County Raceway during the California Racing Club's weekly Saturday night motocross.
When the gate dropped for opening-moto action, it was Mullen with an immediate lead, ahead of Calvin Early, Pasha Afshar and Robert Angell. Early pressured Mullen for a couple of laps before Mullen upped his pace and slowly inched away for the win. Ryan Moscrop was making up for a poor start and was up into third place by the midway point, and he started pushing Early. Moscrop found his way around Early on the penultimate lap, only to encounter problems and drop out of the race. Early inherited the second-place finish, followed by Angell, Brennan McGinnis and Afshar.
Mullen was off to another great start in moto two, along with Moscrop, who was running a close second. McGinnis gated in third, ahead of Angell and Early. Moscrop latched on to the back fender of Mullen and shadowed his every move up until lap five, when he made a pass stick to run out front. Mullen stayed close to Moscrop right up until the checkers waved to earn the overall on his runner-up second-moto performance. Consistent 3-3 finishes earned Angell the second-place trophy, over the 2-4 score of Early.
Hayden Joseph turned a good start in the first 250 Beginner moto into a wire-to-wire win. Bob Bleezy (711, above) gated in second place but couldn't quite mount a challenge and had to settle for the same spot at the checkers, ahead of Stephen Richardson and Kristian Jimenez.
Bleezy got the much-needed better start in moto two and was soon being challenged by Joseph at the end of lap two. Joseph dogged Bleezy for a couple of circuits before Bleezy turned it up and pulled away to secure the overall on the evening with his 2-1 showing. Richardson was again third, over Jimenez.
James De Arman (75, left) and his FMF/Kal Gard Lubricants-backed KTM were simply untouchable in the 65cc age class. De Arman absconded with a pair of holeshots en route to impressive runaway victories. Noah Baker motored to a pair of second-place finishes to top the 4-3 score of Jarett Megla and the 5-5 finishes of Rowdy Lyons.
It was all Dalton Weyer and his Disturbed Designed/FX/O'Neal-sponsored Honda in the 250 Novice ranks, as he easily went 1-1, over Thomas Spalliero and Ryan Hernandez.
