WALDO, FL
Waldo Motorsports Park hosted round six of the Florida/Georgia Sports Committee Spring Series, sponsored by Beach Boulevard Motorsports and Fly Racing. The track was groomed to perfection, and water was never in need after the rain the day before. The skies were threatening all day, and a couple of light showers dampened the track. It was not until the last rider from the last moto exited the track that the deluge of rain fell. Before that, though, Kyle Tomlinson tamed the track, winning the 85 (9-13) and (12-15) classes.
Kyle Tomlinson (286, above, far right) got the jump on the 85 (12-15) class in the first moto. Tomlinson led from start to finish. Chad Stonier, Austin Rue, Lifetime Enclosures' Zack Briar, and Trevor Brown lined up behind Tomlinson. The order stayed the same until the last lap. Stonier and Rue both made mistakes. Briar took advantage of those miscues to take second, over Brown, Bostwick Motocross' Max Darling, Rue and Stonier.
Gainesville Neon Signs' Tomlinson continued where he left off in the first moto and continued his dominance through the second moto. Darling got a better start and was running second, but he had his hands full with Rue, Brown and Stonier. Rue moved to second briefly, and then Brown took control of the runner-up spot on the next lap. The jostling continued to the last lap. Tomlinson went on to win, over Brown, Darling, Rue and Timmy Shepherd.
In the first moto of the 85 (9-13) class, Dawson Stark led the field. Stonier, Tomlinson and Briar followed. Tomlinson jumped to the front on lap two. Stonier also got by Stark, for second. After the halfway flag, Beach Boulevard's Cody Holdeman started picking off riders in the top five. With one lap to go, Stonier made a mistake and dropped to fourth; Holdeman and Stark got by for second and third, respectively. Tomlinson went on to win the moto, and Briar rounded out the top five.
Tomlinson led every lap of moto two to take the overall win. Noah Woods started second but dropped to fifth by the end. Stonier moved into second but could never make a challenge for the lead. Stark ran fourth for most of the moto until Briar fell, moving Stark up to third to round out the podium. Holdeman had another bad start but could never move up as fast and settled for fourth.
Trevor Brown (626, above) continued his dominance in the 250 D class, winning both motos. Brown led the first moto from start to finish. Westside Electric's Eric Hoyt, Redline Powersports' Cody Wacter, and Brandon Kent ran second through fourth the entire time. Gage Stern moved up to round out the top five.
Brown continued his win streak in the second moto. Hoyt took another second. Russell Heggan started third and finished there. Kent and Wacter battled for fourth, with Wacter coming out on top.
Seth Whiddon (20, above) continued his dominance in the 50 Beginner class, winning his fourth race in a row.
The final round will be held this weekend at Alma Motocross Park in Alma, Georgia.
