DADE CITY, FL
The seventh round of the Dade City MX Championship Series arrived, along with some hot, summery days and nights. The cold that plagued the first couple of rounds is long gone. One rider who changed her luck from those first rounds is Courtney Long (5, below). This Honda rider is looking like the female to beat. Long won the Junior Girls class with double-moto wins and the Women's class with a 3-1 score.
Flex Pack's Shelby Quast was on a roll, but the momentum in the 65-150 Junior Girls' class belongs to Long, with two wins. The series' war is among four girls. Series leader Quast went 2-2 on the night, losing only a few points to Long. Pit Posse's Brooke Lynds went 3-3 and holds second in points. The fourth rider is Trick Threadz's Taylor Goldsborough, who went 4-4 and is tied with Long for third.![]()
Extreme Honda Powersports/BPM Racing Engines-sponsored Michael Picone (972, above) got the first-moto holeshot and took his fourth win in the Monster Energy Sponsors Cup. After some shuffling, Picone led over Öhlins' Michael Clarke, Butler Brothers' Kyle Keylon, Morrison's Discount Auto Repair's Jerry Kopoian, and DNA's Derek Hall. Keylon disposed of Clarke and set his sights on Picone. After the halfway mark, Keylon jumped past Picone. Keylon fell a lap later, giving it back to Picone. Keylon got back up and tried to hold off Clarke. When the checkers fell, Picone won the moto, followed by Keylon, Clarke and Hall. Kory Keylon was a distant fifth.
In the second moto, Picone grabbed the holeshot, followed by Vortex's Alex Spade and Kyle Keylon. Spade quickly dropped to fifth, as Kyle Keylon, Clarke, and Pit Stop Graphix's Tyler Livesay went by. Kyle Keylon pressured Picone throughout the race. Clarke and Livesay were locked in their own battle. Picone took another moto win, followed by Keylon, Clarke and Livesay. I-Motos' Ian Millet finished a distant fifth.
In the Vortex Lites contest, the streak continued for Six Twelve's Andrew Stocker (514, above). Qualifier one saw Fun Bike Center's Robby Renner absconding with the holeshot, followed by Aleck Forte, Justin Csanadi, R.J. Hampshire and Kissimmee Motorsports' Kory Keylon. Kory moved through traffic and took the win, over Renner. Hampshire took third, and Forte and Shawn Sckoropad rounded out the top five.
Qualifier two saw Mike's Cycle Center's Robert Devonald-Batt take the holeshot. Stocker, C.K. Douglas, Bryan Fulford and Power Transportation's Dustin Bailey were in the top five. Stocker stuck to Devonald-Batt all the way to the checkers. Bailey moved to third, ahead of Douglas and Fulford.
In the main, Stocker got the holeshot, ahead of Pup Whatley, Hampshire and Fulford. Stocker put the hammer down and pulled out a gap from the Whatley-Hampshire battle. Sckoropad and Renner moved to fourth and fifth, respectively. Hampshire passed Whatley for second. After a bad start, Kory Keylon moved into the top five with a couple of laps to go. At the checkers, Stocker won, just ahead of Hampshire. Whatley held on to third, ahead of Kory Keylon and Renner.
