NMA Qualifier/Illini Super Series
Round 1: Lincoln Trail Motosports

Of Moms and Motocross

CASEY, IL

Mothers play various roles in the sport of motocross: They are cooks, mechanics, riding coaches, business managers, and sometimes even racers. No matter what role your mother plays, it's great to stop and say, "Thanks, Mom!"

Mother's Day means different things to different people, and it is celebrated in many ways. Alex Rossetto welcomed his wife and baby boy to the races to celebrate Mother's Day, while rider Alex Wentzel reflected on the loss of his mother last year.

This was round one of the Illini Super Series as well as the first of the NMA Ponca City area qualifiers.2010 0509 LTM John Loughman 54

The biggest class of the day, the 250cc class, was also the wildest. In the first moto, Honda rider Cody Willenborg took the moto win, with Honda riders John Loughman (54, above) and Brandon Skinner finishing second and third, respectively.

At the start of the second moto, Willenborg was looking to get a great jump off the gate, but his front end washed out and he went down in the first turn, taking Yamaha rider Alexander Ashworth and Kawasaki rider Michael Dennis down with him. While those riders remounted, Yamaha rider Kyle Lamm was out front and on the gas. Suzuki two-stroke rider Nicholas Lasecki and Loughman stalked him to the checkered flag. First-moto winner Willenborg managed to work his way through the pack to sixth for the moto and fourth overall. Skinner took third overall with a 3-4 score. Second went to Kyle Lamm (6-1). First overall went to Loughman (2-3).

One class that always has many moms lining the fence is the 50cc Senior class. Actually, one could almost score it as a "mom's race," as they run around the infield from fence to fence, cheering on their riders. On this Mother's Day, Larry Dauk had the best present for his mom: a first-place trophy! Dauk scored both moto wins and the overall. His fellow Cobra riders Devin Simonson (2-2) and Brayden Childress (3-3) took second and third overall, respectively.

In the 50cc Shaft class, Clayton Anderson took both moto wins and the overall victory. In the first moto, Ross Petty finished second, with Kale Cline placing third. In the second moto, Cline finished second and scored second overall, leaving Petty third for the moto and overall.

Yamaha rider Alex Rossetto went after the Over 30 and Over 40 victories. In the Over 30 A class, Rossetto was on the gas and won the first moto, with Honda rider Josh Denault second and Joe Roberts third. In the second moto, Rossetto took the moto win and overall victory. Roberts finished second for the moto and second overall, and Denault finished third for the moto and overall.

In the Over 40 class, Rossetto went to war with two Suzuki riders - Gary Adams and Paul Mumper. In the first moto, Rossetto hauled to the front taking the moto win, with Adams finishing second and Mumper third. In the second moto, Rossetto again rocketed to the moto win, and the overall victory. Adams finished second for the moto and overall. Third for the moto and overall went to Mumper.
