Monster Energy MX Championship Series
Round 6: Dade City MX

Picone Three Times Picture-Perfect

DADE CITY, FL2010 0501 Dade City MX Michael Picone 972

Extreme Honda/BPM Racing Engines' Michael Picone (972, above) put in another picture-perfect ride at round six of the Monster Energy Sponsors Cup Series. It started with his fifth straight fastest lap time for qualifying. Next was the first-moto holeshot and race win. Last was the moto-two holeshot and win. That made it three picture-perfect nights in a row.

Kissimmee Motorsports' Kory Keylon followed Picone into the first turn in moto one. Jerry Kopoian, Ray Leybovich and Michael Clarke followed. Lap two saw Huss Drilling's Ian Millet jump to third, ahead of Leybovich and Tyler Livesay. Keylon kept Picone honest, a couple of seconds back. After the halfway flag, the battle erupted for fourth. Leybovich led Clarke, Jonathan Camp, Wilfredo Guzman, and Vortex's Alex Spade. The top three sat comfortably for the podium spots. At the checkers, Picone won by about three seconds over Keylon. Millet took third, followed by Clarke and Guzman.

Picone sneaked up the inside for the second-moto holeshot, over Millet and Butler Brother's Kyle Keylon. Clarke and Trick Threadz's Donald Solley followed. After lap one, Kyle moved into second, over Millet and Clarke. Picone tried pulling away, but Kyle reeled him back in. A late mistake by Kyle and Millet dropped them down the order. Picone remained picture-perfect all the way to the checkers. Clarke took second, and Kory took third. Pit Stop Graphix's Livesay beat Guzman for fourth.2010 0501 Dade City MX Bodie Colangelo 43

Six 12's Bodie Colangelo (43, above) took the overall Schoolboy win. Shawn Sckoropad led moto one, followed by Pup Whatley, Christopher Tipton, Colangelo, and Stellar's Canyon Vancil. Colangelo moved up to third and challenged Sckoropad and Whatley for the lead. Whatley got by Sckoropad first, and a lap later Colangelo did the same. With one lap left, Whatley dropped the bike, giving Colangelo the lead and the win. Whatley recovered for second, while Sckoropad fell. Rounding out the top five were R.J. Hampshire, Gator Core's Dalton Myers, and C.K. Douglas.

The second moto saw Douglas abscond with the holeshot. Colangelo was second, followed by Kyle Jacob, Sckoropad, and Hampshire. Sckoropad and Hampshire passed Jacob before the first lap was over, and Whatley moved to fifth on lap two. Douglas pulled out a gap and left Colangelo, Sckoropad and Hampshire to fight for second. With the laps winding down, Douglas ran into lapped traffic, slowing his pace. The battle for second was now for first, but in the end Douglas won it, followed by Colangelo, Sckoropad and Hampshire.2010 0501 Dade City MX River Fitzpatrick 63 vs Mason Osborn 32 vs Abbey Dorey 13

TC Painting's River Fitzpatrick (63, above) sneaked under Mason Osborn (32) and Flex Pack's Abbey Dorey (13) for the first-moto holeshot in the 85cc (12-15) Beginner class. Fitzpatrick checked out for the win. Jeremy Belcher and Justin Lane took the last two podium spots. Dorey got fourth, and Jacob Short made a last-lap pass on Alexus Gunther for fifth.

Dorey nabbed the holeshot in the second moto. Fitzpatrick quickly took the lead and went on to win. Osborn, Belcher, Lane, and Short rounded out the top five.
