FGSC Florida/Georgia Spring Series
Round 2: Alma MX Park

Slabickis Slosh and Slide at Alma MX

ALMA, GA

The second round of the Florida/Georgia Spring Series, sponsored by Beach Boulevard Motorsports, was held in wet and sloppy conditions. Due to the conditions and start time, only one moto was run for everyone.2010 0425 Alma MX Van Slabicki 32

One family that persevered in the conditions was the Slabicki clan. Van Slabicki (32, above) showed his conquest of the rough track by winning the 50 (7-9) and 50 Open classes. Slabicki started second in the combined 50 (7-9) and (4-6) contest, behind Kealon Eason. Slabicki moved to the front and never looked back en route to taking the win. Wesley Freeland moved up to second, and Bryce Clark rounded out the podium. Eason was fourth on the track, ahead of 50 (4-6) class winner Nolen Huston.

In the Open class, Slabicki was running second, behind Clark, who didn't give up the lead until the last lap, when Slabicki went by for the win. Huston also passed Clark, for second. Clark took third, ahead of Freeland, who'd started at the back of the pack.

Slabicki's dad, Michael Slabicki, won the Over 30 C/D contest. Michael started out front and was hounded by Aaron Browning, who kept Slabicki honest, finishing only a couple of seconds behind at the checkers. David Wilson, Ron Janowski and Kevin Devault had their own battle going for third; Factory Connection's Wilson got the better of the other two in the end.

Spaceport Cycles/Pit Posse-backed Cole Williams was another double winner on the day, taking victories in the 65 (7-9) and 65 Open classes.2010 0425 Alma MX Cole Williams 17 vs Conner Lovett 311

Cole Williams (17, above) and Conner Lovett (311) raced for supremacy in the combined 65 (7-9) and (10-11) moto. Williams got the lead, but Dunlop's Lovett kept him in sight. Baylor Sims was third, followed by Justin Dean and Luke Penland. Williams took the moto win, over 65 (10-11) class winner Lovett. Sims and Penland kept third and fourth. O'Neal/Twin Air-sponsored Morgan Johnson came up from eighth on the track to take fifth.

Williams and Lovett also met in the 65 Open class. Williams pulled out a substantial lead to win, ahead of Lovett. Dean and Penland were a distant third and fourth, respectively.

Maxima/Pirelli's Tommy Maxey won two classes, the 85 (12-15) and Supermini classes. Maxey had little resistance in either class. Beach Boulevard's Austin Rue tried keeping up and took a second-place finish in each class. Series leader Max Darling took third in the Supermini class, but Darling had his hands full with his archrival, Lifetime Enclosures' Zack Briar, in the 85 (12-15) class. Briar made the pass about halfway through for the final spot on the podium.2010 0425 Alma MX Cody Holdeman 32

Dirt Work's Cody Holdeman (32) looks like the rider to beat in the 85 (9-13) class. Holdeman won his second race in a row, over Briar. The top four stayed the same and in close proximity the entire moto. Last year's champion, Chad Stonier, and Dawson Stark rounded out the top four.
