BOSTWICK, FL
The long-anticipated Florida/Georgia Spring Series finally arrived, to everyone's delight. The weather was great, the track was great, and a record 292 entries tried their hand at being the best at Bostwick Creek Motocross. One of the best riders was Branson Blake, who won the Schoolboy and 250 C classes.
Moto one of the 250 C class saw Beach Boulevard's Cole McLean abscond with the lead, followed by Michael Clemente, Blake, Devin Landry, and Camden Motorsports' Alex Diaz. McLean continued to lead, as Blake moved to second on lap two. Blake tried to close the gap, but when the checkers fell, McLean won, followed by Blake. Landry made some last-lap moves to take third, over Diaz. Bostwick MX's Jason Letellier rounded out the top five.
It was Branson Blake's (411, above) turn to lead in moto two. McLean had his hands full with Diaz, in third. Clemente and Henry Hoffman were in the top five. Blake took the win. McLean and Diaz swapped places a couple of times, but in the end McLean took second, over Diaz. Landry and Power Wheels' Lewis Dellarco moved up to fourth and fifth, respectively.
The Girls/Women's contest was an exciting battle among the top five. The first moto was a runaway for Silkolene/Fly Racing's Ramsey Henderson. Ashley Applewhite started second, ahead of Becks Tech's Tracy Forward, Cycle Gear's Shelby Krech, and Mia King. O'Neal/Monster Energy/Dunlop-sponsored Morgan Johnson started making her move from sixth place. Johnson passed King and then started reeling in the rest of the riders. At the halfway flag, Applewhite fell, handing Forward second. Krech and Johnson moved up, and the race was on for the last podium spot. Johnson made a late-race charge and passed Krech with two corners to go, behind Forward, who took second.
The second moto was more of the same for Henderson. Krech was second, ahead of Johnson, Applewhite and Forward. The bigger bikes got by Johnson's 85cc machine, as the track was smoothed out and was now a level playing field for all. The order was now Henderson, Applewhite, Krech, Forward and Johnson. After that, the only order change was when Forward passed Krech for third.
Hometown hero Cody Smith (911, above) took three class wins, in the 250 B, Open Amateur, and 16-29 classes. First Coast Honda's Smith's only loss of the day came in the first Open Amateur moto, in which Felipe De Almeida beat Smith to the line. They were followed by Cole Collier and Branson Blake. In the second moto, Smith was not going to be denied. She took the win. In second was Collier, and third was Scott's Andrew Marx.
Max Darling (12, above) won the hotly contested 85 (12-15) class. Darling ran away with the first moto, ahead of Chad Stonier and Austin Rue. In the second moto, Rue jumped out into the lead, just ahead of Darling and Ramsey Henderson. Rue won the second moto, but the overall win went to Darling with his second-place finish. Lifetime Enclosure's Zack Briar moved up to third by the end of the moto.
