Loretta Lynn Southeast Area Qualifier/AMA Pro Am Series/Fly Southern Classic Championship Series
Rounds 9/2: Mill Creek Motocross Park

Starling Sweeps Mill Creek

PELL CITY, AL

Deland, Florida's Justin Starling won every class he entered at Mill Creek Motocross Park, site of a Loretta Lynn Southeast Area Qualifier and an AMA Pro Am Series race. The RRMD/Thor/FMF/Von Zipper-backed Honda rider won both A classes on Saturday and both A/Pro Sport races on Sunday. Round two of the Fly Southern Classic Championship Series was also held on this day. In addition to title sponsor Fly, FMF, Pirelli and Hattiesburg Cycles are also providing support for the series. Racers from 20 states and Bermuda attended the weekend-long event.

In the 250 A class, Starling led both motos from start to finish aboard his four-stroke, but the YZ250s of Rock River Yamaha's Grant Ransdell and Big #1 Yamaha's Hunter Mims were never far behind. Kawasaki riders, led by Jesse Braden (4-4), claimed the next five positions overall.

Starling had his way in the 450 A class as well, leading both motos the entire distance. Mims switched to a YZ450F and claimed second in both motos. Former AMA National campaigner Clark Stiles has come out of retirement to make a run at the National Championship at Hurricane Mills in August. He put his KTM on the podium with 4-3 finishes.

In the first 250 A/Pro Sport moto, Ransdell used the power of the two-stroke to overhaul holeshot starter Starling on the rough, high-speed straight behind the starting line. Mims placed third, over Kawasaki jockeys Cameron Stone and Talladega Cycle Sales' Kendall Mason.

Ransdell passed Starling on a downhill in moto two and appeared to be on his way to the win. By the end of the 15-minute-plus-two-lap moto, Starling moved back out front for a tie-breaking victory and the overall win. Stone finished ahead of Mims this time. A 6-6 tally gave Kentuckian Christopher Akaydin fifth overall.

Bryan Johnson had his Honda flying around the track for three laps in the first 450 A/Pro Sport moto. Stiles took over the lead briefly before running into trouble. Next, Starling took control and rode to the win. Mims placed second, ahead of Brad Smith.

Stone knows his way around the hillside course as well as anybody; he grabbed the second-moto start and steadily pulled away from Starling for the win. Smith took another third in the 25-rider field.

Training under the guidance of Clark Stiles is paying big dividends for Pulaski, Tennessee's Matthew Turner. The KTM rider topped the 36-bike 250 C Stock class with 1-2 finishes. New Yorker Derrick Gentile, local competitor Sean Adams, and Volunteer State rider Stephen Karpenko also put their KTMs in the top 10 overall with fifth, seventh and ninth, respectively.

Consistency was the name of the game in the 450 C class, and Tyler Fletcher held the winning hand. When Adams (6-1) just missed the top five in moto one and Jake Butler (1-14) lost his chance for overall glory in moto two, Fletcher's 3-3 tally put him on the top of the podium in the 30-rider field.
