Vet X Spring Series
Round 3: Perris Raceway

Kalisiak Springs to Victory!

PERRIS, CA

The Vet X Spring Series hit high gear at Perris Raceway, site of the third round, with another freshly upgraded track layout from the Perris crew. Several new jumps were added into the mix, along with some rerouting in the days prior to the event, forcing the riders to spend their practice time preparing for the day's races. The track was ripped deep in the morning, which brought about deep ruts in several corners, adding to the fast and flowing nature of the Perris track.2010 0411 Perris Raceway Henry Kalisiak 244 vs Milton Mize 6 vs Scott Sligar 851

Early in the day, the Over 50 Novice class roared off the gate, with Henry Kalisiak (244, above) jumping out into the early lead, followed by Milton Mize (6) and Scott Sligar (851). With Mize directly behind him, Kalisiak twisted the throttle on his KTM and turned in the fastest lap time in the moto on the second lap, jumping out into a distant lead. Mize held steady in second throughout the race, while Sligar was battling his way up for third place. In the end, the top three finished in those respective positions.

Moto two again saw Kalisiak sprint to the lead. The battle raged on behind him, though, as Mize and Robert Von Schneidau skirmished for second. Mize put in a blazing lap early in the race to try to catch Von Schneidau and came right up on his rear wheel, but he was unable to make the pass. This time Kalisiak did not have a runaway lead, and Von Schneidau began catching up to him. As they crossed the finish line, Kalisiak held on for the win, with Von Schneidau right behind him and Mize rolling across the line in third.

The overall belonged to Kalisiak with his pair of wins, while Mize (2-3) claimed second and Von Schneidau (4-2) rounded out the top three overall.2010 0411 Perris Raceway Chad Hubbard 105

MPI Properties/Ride MX-backed Chad Hubbard (105, right) put in a commanding performance in the VX1 Intermediate class, easily winning both motos. He had a big lead over Terry Cook and Paul Kuehnel, who battled for second in the early laps. O'Neal/661/FMF/Dunlop-sponsored Cook was able to get past Kuehnel early on, but Hubbard had a huge lead.

In the second moto, Hubbard battled early on with Aldo Moreno, but after lap two he again got the lead and held on, though he did not develop as huge a lead as he had in the first race. Wholesale MX rider Kuehnel also battled with Moreno early, but overtook the second position for the closing laps. At the checkers, the order was Hubbard, Kuehnel and Moreno.

The overall victory was owned by Hubbard (1-1), followed by Kuehnel (4-2) and Moreno (3-3).

The Over 40 Novice class had consistent finishers filling the podium. Gary Ivin easily crossed the line first in both races, taking the overall win, while Will Welchhance was the runner-up in both races for second overall. Ivin and Welchhance battled for the lead in the early laps of the second moto, but Ivin came out ahead and was able to put some distance between himself and the rest of the pack. The battle for third place overall was hard fought. In both races, Yamaha/Ride MX/Fox-backed Rocky Aiello had to come through the pack to work his way into third to claim the final step of the podium.
