Loretta Lynn Mideast Area Qualifier
Ballance MotoX Park

Possibilities with Rife

BOWLING GREEN, KY

Competitors had the opportunity to be scored for rounds of the Loretta Lynn area qualifier for the Mideast region at Balance MotoX Park near Bowling Green, Kentucky. Sunshine and mild temperatures readied the riders while John Ballance and his staff groomed the track and made preparations for the racing to begin.

Saturday was Stock day for those trying to qualify for Loretta. The first race of the day was the 250 A class. Kawasaki teammates Shawn Rife and Cameron Stone (718, below), along with Honda-mounted Brandon Mays, made a quick dive for the holeshot, but it didn't take long for Rife to pull out ahead. He then held his lead to the checkered flag, while Mays and Stone followed. Rife added another first place to his perfect score in moto two, earning the championship with a 1-1 tally, ahead of second-placed Stone (3-2) and third-placed Mays (2-3).2010 0410 Ballance MX LLQ Cameron Stone 718 vs Clark Stiles 34

Rife was also undefeated in the 450 A class, followed closely once again by Stone (2-2). Shane O'Banion (4-3), Clark Stiles (34, above) (3-4) and Scott Craven (5-5) complete the top five.

Honda pilot Dylan Cox led 22 other competitors in the first moto of the 450 B class, in front of Clinton Duff, Cole McRae, Mason Collins and Justin Brockman. A slight mishap left McRae unable to finish moto two and, unfortunately, unable to capture a qualifying finishing position. Cox once again dominated the second stanza, earning the moto win. He was followed by Duff, Donald Alford, Patrick Harris and Collins. The overall finishing order was Cox (1-1), Duff (2-2), Collins (4-5), Logan Mattingly (7-6) and Matt Hickey (6-7).

The 40-man gate was full in the 50cc (7-8) class. Jackson Turpin scored a perfect overall win, with Daniel Spurgeon, Cullin Park, Grantt Doolittle and Kyle Lucas following. Trevor Hayden won the championship in the 50cc (4-6) class.

Trevor Tate earned the crown in the 250 C class, while Chris Self took second place overall. The Kawasaki duo was followed by Suzuki's Kyle Durham, Team Green's Derek Johnson (223, below, dicing with Cody Gregory, 991), and Yamaha captain Jake Butler. Thirty other contenders followed the leaders but couldn't quite make the cut into the top five.2010 0410 Ballance MX LLQ Derek Johnson 223 vs Cody Gregory 991

Kayleen Williamson traveled from Largo, Florida, to earn bragging rights for the Women, among 15 others, while Jessica Coates, Brittany Frank, Sandra Rios and Brittney Bebout gave Williamson a run for her money and completed the top five. Virginia's Dorian Franzen won overall honors in the Girls' class.
