BRONSON, MI
Log Road kicked off the 2010 GLMX season, but that's the norm, as it's a well-known fact that regardless of what the weatherman throws at Beerbower and his crew of 'dozer bandits, they will knock it out of the park. The day's big winner on the little bikes was Swartz Creek, Michigan's Mini master Jacob Williamson (373, right), who cleaned up in the 85 (9-13), 85 Senior and Supermini classes, grabbing five of six moto wins on his way to three overalls in three tries.
Williamson was a man on a mission. He grabbed a ton of holeshots, leading both the 85 (9-13) and 85 Senior classes from the drop of the gate until the checkered flag flew at the conclusion of all four motos. Mitchell Harrison gave chase but was unable to match Williamson's speed and was forced to settle for the runner-up spot in the 85 (9-13) class with a 2-2 tally. Hunter Burnham (3-3) is looking strong this spring aboard his yellow machines, and he locked up the last step of the podium with two thirds. Tristan McDonald (4-6) and Tyler Jorgensen (7-5) battled with Tanner Gray (DNF-4) over the last two spots in the top five, with McDonald getting the nod for fourth, over Jorgensen.
In Supermini action, Williamson got off to another fast start, but a mishap opened the door for Ohio's Richie Kolcun to take the first-moto win, outrunning John Boyle and a quickly recovering Williamson. Moto two was all Williamson's, as he put in a nearly perfect race to take the second-moto win and, with his 3-1 tally, the overall victory. Boyle (2-2) was strong in both races and in moto two had the speed to hold off moto-one winner Kolcun (1-3) to make second overall his.
Less Vankuren (926, below) didn't win a moto in the Open C class, but his total score of five was all that was needed to make the day overall his.
Rain in the second moto had the Open C field all mixed up, but when all the scores were tallied, it was Vankuren (2-3) taking the top spot after chasing moto-one winner Tyler Grewe (1-7), who didn't care for the wet conditions in moto two and ended his day in fifth overall. Moto two went to Austin Morris (6-1), who garnered runner-up for his efforts. Dan Duve (5-2) nailed the second-moto holeshot and bettered his first-moto finish by three spots to lock down the lest step of the podium.
The next event on tap at Log Road will be on April 17 and 18, featuring two big days of moto mania. Sunday is round one of the Log Road C Class Shootout Series, in which the top 10 riders in the 85 C, 125 B/C, 250 C, Open C and Quad C classes will be guaranteed larger-than-usual awards.
