Sir Lancelot Holds Court, Out-Jousts Field

BREAUX BRIDGE, LA

After suffering from temperatures that have been 20 degrees below normal this winter, and with the afterglow of the Saints Super Bowl victory still lingering, Cajun Country finally got its mind wrapped around motocross in early March. Riders from around the country arrived right about the same time as the glorious spring weather, which made for a great weekend. While the attendance was down slightly from last year, 421 entrants enjoyed a superbly prepped, dark and loamy track. Dirt Bike Mike and new owner Jason Landry hosted the annual event, along with track commentators Bruce Barnes and Roy Jenkins.2010 0306 Gravity Alley Lance Vincent 45

The fastest rider on both days was local rider Lance Vincent (45, above, passing Dustin Manuel, 861). "Sir Lancelot" took his Honda of Houston to victory in the 450 A, 450 A/Pro Sport, 250 A and 250 A/Pro Sport classes. His closest competitor was Honda-mounted Gavin Faith, in the 250 A/Pro Sport class. When Vincent went down and had to charge back up to the front, he could only make it to second, while Faith won that moto with room to spare. Faith came up to challenge Vincent in the second moto, until Vincent played the "this is my home track" card and pulled away.

Caleb Bertrand was able to keep Vincent in sight - for the most part - in all four motos on his Honda of Lafayette mount. Behind them, Michael Mims kept his WilcoMX Yamaha in the top three or four.

"I got a good jump, got the holeshot and just rode my own race," Vincent said after one of his wins. "I'd like to thank my Uncle Ricky a whole bunch; he's great to me. I'd like to thank the Lord Jesus Christ for keeping me safe, my mom, my dad, my whole family, my mechanic; all the guys at Honda of Houston, Smith, Monster Energy, and anyone else I forgot."

The fastest B rider on the weekend was Team Green rider Justin Summers. The Floridian won the 250 B Modified, 450 B Stock and 450 B Modified classes and took second, behind Forrest Smith, in the 250 B Stock class. Summers' lap times were only a few seconds behind Lance Vincent's.

Aaron Sanchez led the Schoolboy Two class for three laps but went off the edge of a jump and into one of the little drain ponds. He tried to pin it, skating across the surface briefly, but he finally went down. He was able to get back into the race and salvage third place. He went on to win the Supermini Two class, took second in the Schoolboy One class and fourth in the Schoolboy Two class. Meanwhile, Forrest Smith rode four consistent motos to garner victories in the Schoolboy One and Two classes and the 250 B Stock class.
