ALMA, GA
Alma's second race of the year happened on another cold and wet weekend. The weather was better than most of what the eastern half of the states are getting, so everyone was thankful for that. The track once again shaped up nicely partway through the first set of motos. This race was the first round of the Outlaws Winter Warm-Up Series.
Two riders who attacked the track with vigor were Spaceport Cycles/Nuckledraggens' Cole Williams and JAM Electric/Cycle Gear's Kyle Edwards (317, above). Williams won the 65 (7-9), 65 Open and Junior Mini classes. Edwards won the Schoolboy, 250 C and 450 C classes.
The day started with the 65 Open class. Williams shot into the lead in the first moto and went on to take the win. Fox's Joshua Gibbs stayed close the entire moto and took second. No Fear's Baylor Simms took off in third but dropped back to fifth on the last lap. Capital Cycles' Jeremiah Seabolt and Cole Redd moved up to third and fourth, respectively.
Williams continued his domination in the second moto for the win, and Gibbs was runner-up. Seabolt took third to round out the podium.
Gibbs took control of the first 65 (7-9) moto, as Williams finished just behind in second. Dakota Benson ran third early until he was forced out of the moto. Sims moved up to third, over Wyatt Dean and Seth Ivey.
The second moto saw Gibbs out front, ahead of Seabolt, Williams, Dean and Ivey. A hard fall knocked Gibbs out of the lead on lap two. At that time, Williams took first, ahead of Seabolt. Williams ran away with the win, over Seabolt and Dean. Blane Carrigg took fourth, over Ivey.
Edwards gripped the throttle and dominated all day, winning all six motos he contested. In the biggest race, the 250 C class, Edwards led from the start. Logan Dixon, Matt Humkey, Weston Rountree and Grant Hall were in tow. Grant passed Rountree for fourth on lap two, while the top three stayed the same. Edwards kept his distance ahead of Dixon and Humkey all the way to the checkers. Rountree dropped out, and City Automotive/Dunlop-sponsored Chase Krech moved by Grant to take fourth.
The second moto saw Edwards out front and taking the win. Rountree recovered to take second. Hall, Humkey and Alistair Prentice were in the top five. Humkey moved into third to stay, and Prentice dropped Hall to fifth.
FMF/Gaerne's Dyanna Conner led the first combined Women's and Girls' moto. Conner rode but did not get scored. Silkolene/Fly Racing's Ramsey Henderson, Shelby Krech, Jenna Eminger and Morgan Johnson followed. In the Girls' class, Eminger and Johnson stayed close, with Cadie Barlow closing the gap. At the checkers, Eminger won, with Johnson close behind.
In the second moto, Beach Boulevard/O'Neal/Scott-sponsored Morgan Johnson (159, above) motored away for the win in the Girls' class. Johnson first passed Eminger on the second lap. Henderson went on to win the Women's class after Conner's bike broke.
