CMC Copperstate Classic Motocross Championships
Round 1: Arizona Cycle Park

Huzzah for Huddleston!

BUCKEYE, AZ2010 0207 Arizona Cycle Park Dillon Huddleston 409

Dillon Huddleston (409, above) hustled his way around Arizona Cycle Park's National Course to take the overall victory in the 450 Pro class at round one of the CMC Copperstate Classic Motocross Championship, presented by Scott USA, Gordy's Bicycle, The Pit Enterprise and Amsoil. The series is also benefiting from factory backing from Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki and Honda. Rain came down on the track Saturday evening, giving way to clear skies on Sunday. Promoter Bobby White anticipated the weather and designed the track around the high points of the facility while drawing the excess water to lower areas.

Avery Rogers grabbed the early lead in the first moto, followed by Austin White, Ed Foedish and Bobby Machado. As the group went into the sand-pit section, Huddleston was last just coming over the double-double section. White took over the top spot, going around Avery just before "Shotgun Hill." Huddleston moved into third by the end of the first lap, getting by Machado and Foedish. Huddleston got underneath Rogers on the side-hill section, taking second.

White built up a lead on second during that exchange with Huddleston and Rogers. But Huddleston was clearly catching White, closing the gap from lap three to lap six. With two laps remaining, Huddleston was within striking distance, but then White found a little extra speed. Huddleston tried the outside line in the sand-pit section, coming alongside White just before the right-hander. But White had the drive from the inside line and held off the advance. The checkers flew for White first, followed by Huddleston, Machado and Foedish.

White absconded with the lead in the second moto, with Huddleston in tow. When they came back into view in front of the grandstands, Huddleston was now out in front. He would gap White by about two seconds and keep that spacing through the duration of the moto. The Kawasaki/EVS/Smith-sponsored Huddleston took the moto win, followed by White, Foedish and Machado.

Austin Wells did double duty in 250 Intermediate and Schoolboy classes, winning every moto. However, the Schoolboy race took a bit more work for Wells, as he had to come back from poor starts in both motos to win.

Bailey Bruner garnered two holeshots and never looked back in each moto to take a convincing win in the 250 Junior class.

Colton Keeling took wins in the 85 (12-13), 85 Open and 150F classes. In the second 150F moto, Keeling went down on the first lap while leading, giving the lead to Austin Vallery, who was followed by Stephen Kazmierczak. Keeling got going again and was able to work his way back into the lead by moto's end. Vallery ended up second, with Kazmierczak third.
