MX Racer Fantastic Fall 4 Freeway Series
Round 3: Lake Elsinore Motorsports Complex

Hucking the Matterhorn

LAKE ELSINORE, CA

With a three-moto format instead of the usual two motos, the day began fast and furious as the first race of five multiple-class races started off the day with the big bikes on the line.Lake Elsinore Ms Complex 2009 1206 Big Bike Race

Thirteen-year-olds Matt Cerami (140, above), John Haygood (711) and Thomas Hoffman (24) and fortysomething rider Mike Herbert (119) battled for the holeshot in the first big-bike moto, while Taylor Hiner gave them all a 10-second lead by waiting at the start gate before chasing them all down. With just one more race to go in the four-round series, the goofing around came to an end really quickly. Hiner caught all but Cerami on lap one, quickly overtaking him to win each moto. Cerami held a strong second place on each lap thereafter. The overall finishing order for race one was Hiner, Cerami, Haygood, Hoffman and Herbert.Lake Elsinore Ms Complex 2009 1206 Hucking the Matterhorn

Putting on a good show, 250cc four-stroke riders Taylor Hiner (above left) and Matt Cerami (above right) executed the so-called "Hucking the Matterhorn." The mountain in question is the newly labeled 120-foot spanker that has added much excitement to the races for the riders, their families and the spectators. The newest members of the "Huck the Matterhorn" club are 125cc racer John Haygood, 150cc racer Jordan Di Bella, and 85cc racers Carson Carr and Michael Quinn. Noah Fraley (271, below) and Matthew Haygood (313) enjoy honing their "hucking" skills over the apex of the Matterhorn trail. Haygood vows to catch his trackside and pit buddy Fraley on the racetrack someday soon.Lake Elsinore Ms Complex 2009 1206 Matterhorn
