BUNNELL, FL
The Florida/Georgia Fall MX Classic tour stopped by the Pax Trax circuit. The weather was warm and sunny for this fourth round of the Western Power Sports/Fly Racing-sponsored series. This day belonged to the girls and women who battled right alongside their male counterparts, but the one female rider who stood out from the rest was Beach Boulevard Motorsports/Amsoil/Michelin-sponsored Hannah Hodges (172, below). This girl took it to the boys and won the 65cc (10-11), 65cc Open and 85cc (7-11) classes.
Hodges won both motos of the 65cc (10-11) class, but she had some competition in the 65cc Open contest. Hodges was leading the first moto but lost that lead partway through to Dylan Greer. In the second moto, Hodges took it all the way for the win. Greer finished with a 1-2 punch for second overall, ahead of Fox's Joshua Gibbs (3-3).
Hodges put her skills on the bigger machine to work in the 85cc (7-11) class, against some even better competition. Tristan Lane took the first-moto win, ahead of Dawson Stark and Hodges. In the second moto, Hodges put her head down and won the moto. Series leader Chad Stonier took second after a dismal fifth in moto one. Stark finished the moto in third, over Lane.
The Girls/Women's class had the best turnout of the series, with 10 riders. Fly Racing/Silkolene-sponsored Ramsey Henderson (40, above) showed why she has been the best. In the first moto, the pack got spread out and the race was won by Henderson, followed by Ashley Michaels, Abby Dorey, Jokester Racewear/Beck's Tech-sponsored Tracy Forward, and Kristen Wohlfarth.
The second moto had a little more drama to it. There was a first-corner pileup; Henderson got out front and never looked back. Running second through fifth were Forward, Shelby Krech, Beach Boulevard Motorsports/Renthal/RK Chains-backed Morgan Johnson, and Tori Newborn. Michaels and Dorey were both making their way forward. The two riders passed Krech and Johnson at the halfway mark. Michaels kept pushing and made it up to third. At the checkers, the top five were Henderson, Forward, Michaels, Dorey and Krech.
Gerald Gay showed the younger guys how it's done by winning the Over 30 C and D class with a 2-1 score. Gay then backed that up with double moto wins in the Over 45 class.
Kyle Edwards (317, left) got back on track after a couple of off weekends. The Cycle Gear/J&M Electric-sponsored rider topped 125-250 Schoolboy class and then took a dramatic overall win in the 250 C class with a 1-2 score. Camden Motorsports' Alex Diaz played spoiler by taking second with 3-3 motos, over Spaceport Cycles' Myles Heath (6-1) and Bostwick's Jason Letellier (4-5). With only one round left Edwards, Heath and Letellier are all bidding for those two class championships with a tight points battle.
Edwards has a comfortable points lead in the 450 C class and took third overall on this day with a 3-4 score. First overall went to Diaz with a 1-2 punch, over Chase Northrip's 4-1 score.
