Florida/Georgia Fall Classic
Round 2: Motoplex

Gibbs Gets It Done at the Motoplex

MADISON, FL

Round two the Western Power Sports/Fly Racing-sponsored Florida/Georgia Fall Classic rolled into the Motoplex for an excellent day of racing. Some of the series sponsors - I-20 Graphics, Jokester Racewear, and Beck's Tech - were on hand to witness their riders play on this sandy course. RoadandDirt.com was also there for the second week in a row, taking videos for riders.Joshua Gibbs 30 at Motoplex 2009 1108

The MGX Unlimited/Twin Air-sponsored Joshua Gibbs (30) was out for redemption in the 65cc classes this weekend. After mediocre finishes at round one, Gibbs turned up the wick just a little more to take double moto wins in the 65 (7-9) and Open classes. In the Open class, Gibbs was followed each time by Connor Lovett, Lance McConnell, Josh Bishop, and O'Neal/Dunlop/Scott-sponsored Morgan Johnson.Alan Jonas 995 at Motoplex 2009 1108

The Over 35, Over 40 and Over 45 classes shot off the line, and Alan Jonas (995) took the first-moto holeshot, over Brian Chancey (67) and Beck's Tech's Jason Beck (346). Jonas went on to take the moto win, over GPS Suspension's Dan Sallas. Gerald Gay came up through the pack for third, and won the Over 45 class. The second moto was more of the same for Jonas, as Sallas was at the back of the pack. Gay came from fourth to finish second on the track, over Chancey, Sallas and Danny Glover.

Cycle Gear/Beasley Motosports-sponsored Kyle Edwards topped the 450 C class with double moto wins. Then he came back and tallied a 2-1 score for the 250 C class. Renthal's Myles Heath and Edwards fought for the lead in the first 250 C moto. Heath retook the lead for good with a daring outside pass down the front straight going into the first turn. Edwards finished second, over Jason Letellier, Chad Glover and Alistair Prentice.

The second moto was all Edwards', as Heath was toward the back due to a hurt leg from a previous moto. Glover was second until he faded to fourth. Letellier and Prentice took the last podium spots, and John Getz rounded out the top five.Joshua Guffy 98 at Motoplex 2009 1108

There was some close racing going into the first turn in the first 85 (7-11) moto among Ryan Rossier (41), Jonathan Baker (47) and Joshua Guffy (98). Baker led the first lap, over Guffy, Rossier, Chad Stonier and Dawson Stark. Triple J Cattle/Eagle Windows-sponsored Baker went on to take the win, over Guffy. Stonier moved up to third.

The second moto saw Baker with the lead again. Spaceport Cycles' Guffy stayed close until, with two laps to go, Baker made a mistake and handed Guffy the lead - and the win. Gainesville Neon Signs' Kyle Tomlinson took second, over Baker, and Stonier and Billy Ottervanger rounded out the top five.

Grant Hall took double moto wins in the 250 D class. Mason Middlebrook and Levi Young followed Hall in the first moto but fell to third and fourth, respectively, in moto two. Austin Blocker took a 8-2 score for fourth overall, ahead of Ryan Prentice's 5-5 score.
