Florida/Georgia Fall Classic
Round 1: Bostwick Creek Motocross Park

Smith Smashes Bostwick!

BOSTWICK, FLCody Smith 911 at Bostwick Creek MX 2009 1025

Round one of the Western Power Sports/Fly Racing-sponsored Florida/Georgia Fall Classic got under way at the beautiful track at Bostwick Creek Motocross Park. A warm, sunny day and superb track conditions greeted the riders. One of fastest riders on the day was Cody Smith (911, above) from nearby Green Cove Springs; the Honda rider won the 250 B and 16-29 classes.

In the first 16-29 moto, Smith battled with Cole Studstill for the win. Studstill got the nod at the checkers. Zach Hodgson beat out David Cameron and Duncan Johnson for the last podium position.

Studstill started the second moto but tallied a DNF. Smith went on to win by a comfortable margin over Jake Haygood and Cameron. Rounding out the top five were Travis Johnson and Hodgson.

Sparks flew in the 125-250 Schoolboy contest. In the first moto, Twin Air's Cole McLean led the pack, but the man on the move was Tanner Hughes. The MSR/Carbon Fiber Works-sponsored Hughes worked his way up from a midpack start. On the last lap, Hughes began putting the heat on McLean for the lead. In the last corner, Hughes hammered the throttle on the inside line and took the win. Scott's Myles Heath, Kyle Edwards and Garrett Westbrook rounded out the top five.Myles Heath 17 vs Tanner Hughes 893 at Bostwick Creek MX 2009 1025

The second moto was even more exciting. The overall was up for grabs, and the riders battled back and forth. Myles Heath (17, above) battled with Tanner Hughes (893) early on. Heath ended up with the moto win and the overall victory. Jason Letellier mixed it up, taking second, over Hughes, McLean, and Alistair Prentice.

The battle continued in the 250 C class, with the same riders. Heath took the first moto, over Edwards, after a close battle. Letellier took third, over McLean, and Ryan Harrington rounded out the top five.

The second moto saw Edwards out front, as Heath got stuck in the first turn. McLean and Letellier were close in second and third, respectively. When the checkers flew, Edwards took the win, over McLean and Letellier. Heath made it back up to fifth but could not get around fourth-place finisher Westbrook.Ramsey Henderson 40 at Bostwick Creek MX 2009 1025

The Girls' and Women's class jumped on the track, and SMX Optics' Ramsey Henderson (40, above) jumped into the lead in moto one. Abbey Dorey, Dunlop's Tracy Forward, Shelby Krech, and Beach Boulevard/O'Neal/Acerbis-sponsored Morgan Johnson followed. Henderson pulled out for the win. Dorey finished a respectable second. The closest race ended up being for third, between Forward and Johnson. After the first lap, Johnson had a five-second gap to make up. Johnson closed the gap to only a couple of bikelengths but could not make the pass.

The second moto was more of the same for Henderson. Dorey was in second until a spill dropped her to fourth. This moved Forward and Johnson up to third and fourth, respectively. The three stayed close but could not make a move on one another. At the checkers, it was Henderson, Forward, Johnson, Dorey and Krech.
