Round 10: South Fork Dirt Riders Appreciation Day

Loehr, Corman Go Six for Six

TAYLORVILLE, IL

Appreciation Day at South Fork Dirt Riders is always filled with great games and prizes for everyone. However, the event almost didn't happen, as rain started on Tuesday and didn't let up until Friday, but with some other area moto tracks not running and with the Branson National a boat race, several riders made their way to South Fork and found the crew had "packed" the track before the rain hit and did not work the course until Sunday morning, and some thought this was the best track all year: rough and rutted, with two or three lines in each corner - a true motocross course!Zach Loehr 117 at South Fork 2009 1011

One rider who has to appreciate being back at the track after missing most of the season was Zach Loehr (117, above). Back at the track for the second time and back up to speed, Loehr swept all six motos he entered, taking the overall wins in the 85 Senior, Supermini and 125 classes.

Another racer who has been missing from the local races is Suzuki rider Kyle Corman (17, below).Kyle Corman 17 at South Fork 2009 1011

"I have been racing the Nationals," Corman explained. "I plan on riding the East Coast Supercross and outdoor Nationals in 2010."

"National-level" speed is very fast, and Corman set the fastest lap time of the day and swept every moto he entered, taking the overall victories in the Open A, 250 A and Four-Stroke classes.

Two more riders who also swept their classes were ESPY Kawasaki riders Theodore Pauli (who took the wins in both the Open and 250 B classes) and David Espinoza (who took the wins in the Over 25 and Over 30 A classes).Mark Rubenstein 459at South Fork 2009 1011

In the Over 50 class, Husky man Mark Rubenstein (459, above) traded moto wins with Honda rider Rod Burger, with Rubenstein taking the overall victory.

Some of the best racing of the day came in the Over 40 class. Suzuki rider Gary Adams took the first-moto win, with Yamaha rider Kenny Bollmeier coming from the back of the pack to place second. Third went to KTM rider Todd Huston. In the second moto, Bollmeier rocketed to the front of the pack and took the moto and overall win. Adams couldn't match the leader's pace and had to settle for second in the moto and overall. After spending some time off to nurse a sore knee, Huston put in a great race and took third for the moto and overall.
