BINGHAMTON, NY
Sean Ballard (916, above) topped the podium of the extremely competitive Schoolboy Lites class at the penultimate District 3 points race of the year at the Broome-Tioga Sports Center on October 11. Ballard took a third in the first moto and a win in the final to clinch the overall. Ballard gated fourth off the start of the opening moto and moved to third on the third lap and held the position at the checkered flag. In the final moto, Ballard battled with Cody Sawyer for most of the moto and finally took the point late in the race and held on to take the win and the overall. Honda pilot Zac Law took the runner-up tier of the podium with a 2-3 score, and Kevin Uebrick rounded out the podium by taking the win in the opening moto and fourth in the second.
Sawyer, Uebrick, Abbrielle Tardelli and Ballard led the pack out of the first turn in the opening Schoolboy Lites moto. Uebrick took the point upon exiting the difficult front rhythm section; Sawyer was relegated to second. Jim Peters, Law and Ballard rounded out the top five.
Uebrick maintained his lead at the start of lap three, while Law and Ballard moved up to take second and third, relegating Peters and Sawyer to fourth and fifth. Sawyer and Peters battled for several laps until Sawyer retook fourth for good late in the race. Uebrick took the win, followed by Law, Ballard, Sawyer and Derek Cornish.
Ballard didn't get the best of starts in the final Schoolboy moto and battled with Sawyer until he finally made the pass for the lead late in the race and held on to take the final-moto win. Sawyer, Law, Uebrick and John Thierfelder completed the top five.
Cole Clark (127, above), Dawson Driscoll (107) and Spencer Mang led the pack out of the first turn in the opening 65cc (7-11) moto. Clark held the point position at the start of lap two, with Driscoll in hot pursuit. Mang, Bryce Moore and Dominic Carnibucci rounded out the top five.
The top three remained unchanged at the start of lap three, but Jared Bracht had diced his way into the top five, first by making the pass on Carnibucci to take fifth and then getting around Moore to claim fourth. Moore and Carnibucci were displaced to fifth and sixth, respectively.
Clark and Driscoll were in a class of their own, as they continued to pull away from the rest of the field with each lap. Bracht wasn't done moving up: He made the pass on Mang to take third on lap four. Mang came back to retake third on the white-flag lap. Clark took the checkers with a two-bikelength lead over Driscoll. Mang, Bracht and Cody Laughlin closed out the top five.
Anthony Grenga, Clark, Mang, Driscoll and Jared Bracht led the start of the final 65cc (7-11) moto. Clark took the point in the front rhythm section, with Driscoll in tow. Clark and Driscoll ran one-two for the entire moto, but Driscoll couldn't get close enough to make the pass for the lead. Clark took the win and the top tier of the podium via his perfect 1-1 rides. Driscoll, Anthony Grenga, Moore and Mang followed. Driscoll's consistent 2-2 rides netted him the runner-up step on the podium, and Mang completed the rostrum with a 3-5 tally.
