Doll Does It the Hard Way at CRC Night Finale

PALMDALE, CACameron Doll 345 at LACR 2009 0919

Although he didn't win either moto in the Vet Intermediate class, Cameron Doll (345, left) emerged victorious during the final round of the California Racing Club's Hot Summer Nights Motocross Series for 2009. N-Style sponsored the finale, which was played out on the J.B. Memorial Track at Los Angeles County Raceway in Palmdale.

Doll absconded with the opening-moto holeshot aboard his Nationwide Cycle/Jardine/O'Neal-backed Honda to lead Pasha Afshar, Robbie Dunham, Kirt Cothran and the rest of the field. Dunham hounded Afshar for a couple of laps before passing his fellow Yamaha rider for second place and setting out after Doll. Dunham chipped away at Doll's lead and on the penultimate circuit was finally able to move into the point position, where he would stay until the checkers fell. Third went to Afshar, followed by Cothran and Gunner Schwartz.

The Vet Intermediate class happened to be the final race on the evening's schedule, and they were treated to a 20-lap second moto, with holeshot artist Doll leading the way. Michael Penta, who didn't finish moto one, had something to prove, so he latched on to Doll's back fender off the start. Cothran gated third but was quickly overtaken by Dunham. Penta stayed just out of range of Doll's roost, waiting for a mistake to happen - and it did, on lap 12, when Doll went down in a corner. Doll was quickly up and under way, but not before Penta had 10 seconds on him. Doll was on the gas for the remainder of the race but couldn't quite reel in Penta; however, his consistent 2-2 finishes earned the first-place trophy. Dunham finished all by himself in third, which earned him second in the final standings, over Cothran, Penta and Afshar.Nick De George 656 at LACR 2009 0919

It wasn't that long ago that Nick De George (656, right) was beating up on the 250 Beginner class on a regular basis. De George finished off the Saturday night season of racing with his first-ever overall win in the 250 Novice class. De George absconded with the holeshot in moto one but couldn't Jeremy Lasater at bay, as Lasater went on to win the race. De George shot off to another great start in moto two and this time was able to fend off the challenges of Lasater right up until the checkers waved to collect the overall on his 2-1 effort. Ryan Hernandez finished third both times out.

Tom Burgess and Garry Conner continued their weekly battle over the top spot in the Super Senior Expert class. Conner held off Burgess for most of the opening moto before Burgess inched away for the win. Burgess nabbed the holeshot in the second outing and checked out for a sweep of the class. Behind Conner, Greg Martinez went 3-3 for third.Nicholas Mercier 96 at LACR 2009 0919

Nicholas Mercier (96, left) put on a riding clinic for the rest of the 85cc (12-13) class as he ran away with both motos on his Axo/661/Renthal-backed Suzuki. Cody Miller got the better of Robert Humphrey for a pair of runner-up finishes.
