AMP/GFI Fall Series
Round 2: Oatfield Raceway

Bereman, Noftz, Keenom Clash!

TURLOCK, CA

With just a few weeks left before the seventh annual Dodge Amateur National, the AMP crew spent the week getting the Oatfield Raceway ready for the second round of the 2009 AMP Fall Series. With almost 400 entries on the day, there was plenty of action to watch. The 250, 450 and Open Intermediate classes swapped winners each and every moto.Tyler Bereman 653 at Oatfield 2009 0913

The day kicked off with the Open Four-Stroke class. In the first moto, young Kawasaki rider Ty Keenom jumped out in front of the 450s aboard his KX250F. Tyler Bereman (653, above) pressured Keenom the entire moto but didn't have the time to make a move. Robert Noftz finished lap one about 15 seconds back after quick passes and then slowly inched forward but couldn't catch up.

In the second moto, Bereman got out front, with Noftz hot on his heels and Keenom in fourth. On lap two, Keenom made a mistake that put him back to eighth, while Bereman and Noftz were checking out. At the end of the race, just two seconds separated Bereman and Noftz. Keenom finished in fifth. This handed Bereman the overall victory, with Noftz second, leaving Keenom third overall.

Next up was the 250 Intermediate class, and this is where things got interesting. Noftz, Bereman and Keenom all jumped out front quickly. Noftz and Bereman were dicing back and forth when Bereman tried to stay low off a jump and crashed, ending his moto. Keenom was still there and ready to capitalize, but he didn't have enough for Noftz.

Bereman didn't start moto two, to save his strength for the 450 Intermediate class. Noftz jumped out in front again, with Dylan Lane and Keenom in tow. Lane crashed out on lap three, leaving Noftz and Keenom to go at it. Keenom ran down Noftz and made the pass with a couple of laps to go. At the end of the moto, the finishing order was Keenom, Noftz, Mark Braden and Dillon Alexander, all within a second of one another. Keenom's 2-1 tally beat out Noftz's 1-2 score, and Braden finished third with a 4-3 performance.

After his horrendous crash in the 250 Intermediate class, Bereman was left with some crazy road rash and dual black eyes. In the first 450 Intermediate moto, he rode tentatively to third place, behind Keenom and Noftz. As the track got rougher, the 450s had an advantage over Keenom's KX250F.

In moto two, Bereman came out swinging and was untouchable. Noftz worked his way into second on lap two, and Keenom was buried back in the pack. Keenom worked his way forward but could only manage to get up to fifth. Noftz stayed in second, behind Bereman, knowing he had the overall locked up as long as Keenom didn't pass him. Noftz took the overall. Braden finished up in the third spot again. Overall, it was Noftz, Bereman and Braden.

It was another solid weekend for the AMP crew. The next event will be the seventh annual Dodge Amateur National, September 26-October 4.
