PALMDALE, CA
Nationwide Cycle sponsored this night's round of the California Racing Club's Hot Summer Nights Motocross Series at Los Angeles County Raceway, where Brian Farner proved to be untouchable in the Super Senior class, in which he went 1-1 for the win.
Garry Conner (1Z) led Bob Dunham (72), Brian Farner (behind Dunham) and Greg Martinez (12) at the start of the combined Super Senior contest. Farner made his intensions clear by bolting out to an immediate lead over Dunham, Mark Neal and Denny Ryan. The moto was all Farner's, as the Motohead/Sunline/O'Neal-backed Honda rider put a comfortable gap between himself and Dunham during the first couple of laps and then just cruised to victory. Ryan got around Neal near the midway point for an eventual third-place finish. Scott McDonall finished fifth.
Dunham had his YZ450F running at the front of the pack when moto two was let loose. Farner gated in second place, ahead of McDonall and Ryan. Farner zeroed in on Dunham, but it took him until the sixth circuit of the J.B. Memorial Track to drop Dunham back to second place. Once clear of Dunham, Farner motored away for a sweep of the class. Dunham easily finished in the runner-up position to collect the second-place trophy. Neal overcame a bad start to land in third place at the checkers for third in the final standings, over Ryan and McDonnal.
Garry Conner went wire to wire for the first-moto victory in Super Senior Expert action. Tom Burgess kept Conner in his sights en route to a second-place finish, over Greg Martinez. The tables were turned in moto two, as Burgess built an insurmountable lead over Conner early on to go 2-1 for the win.
Ryan Pekarek fought his way back from a poor start to put a last-minute pass on Tyler Martinez and see the checkers first in the opening 85cc Beginner moto. Devin Hovey claimed third. Pekarek got a much better start in moto two and led every inch of the race. Hovey's runner-up performance edged out the 2-3 tally of Martinez for second overall.
It was no contest in the Senior Amateur ranks, as CR500AF-mounted Mike De Stefano (53, left) turned a pair of good starts into runaway victories. CRC's current Senior-class number-one-plate holder, Greg McConnell, finished second both times out, ahead of Lucky Feinstein and Dino De Maria.
