Summer is over, and to the great joy of the kids, they are on their way back to school. The South Fork Dirt Riders wanted to do something special for the kids going back to school, as well as helping the parents save a little money, so this week those in the 50cc classes got to race for half-price, and all kids got to eat lunch for free.
As fans of motocross, we all tend to watch the Expert riders, because they are fast and have great style. But to become an A or Expert rider, you have to start somewhere, and for school-age kids it seems the 85cc Junior class is where many get their start; for the adults, it's the age classes or the D class.
When the gate dropped for the first 85cc Junior moto, Suzuki rider Gaige Wallace shot to the head of the class and proved go be the "A" moto student, riding with great style and speed en route to the moto win. It was easy to tell he's been doing his homework. Suzuki rider Carter Gordon also put in a great ride for second. Kawasaki rider Brennan Stanfield finished third.
In the second moto, Wallace again had the perfect moto test score, taking the moto win and the overall victory. Yamaha rider Victor Kalaher put in an epic ride for second in the moto. Carter Gordon placed third. Using his math skills, Wallace put one and one together to get, well, first place. Gordon took second with 2-3 moto scores. Kalaher (5-2) finished third overall.
The D class was one of the largest of the day, which is a good thing, because these riders are new to the sport and will eventually be moving up to the C class - and we all hope that our sport will grow with new riders taking their place, learning about racing and how fun and competitive it can be. Yamaha rider Daniel Cook took the first-moto win, with Honda rider Bryce Cox (15, below) second and Suzuki rider Alexander Godwin (67) third.
In the second moto, Cook again took the moto win and, with it, the overall. Cox and Godwin finished second and third again in the moto and overall, but only after an epic battle that rivaled the ones between James Stewart and Chad Reed. These riders traded positions and raced the whole moto, and it's certain they had a great time! Not one of these riders was without a smile afterward. That being the case, they are all winners - and welcome to motocross!
