PALMDALE, CA
Riders' Choice Performance sponsored this night's round of the California Racing Club's Hot Summer Night Motocross Series at Los Angeles County Raceway, where Tyler Aker (247, left) split moto wins with Shane Miller to emerge victorious in the 250 Novice class.
Opening-moto action saw Aker put his Leo's Outlaw Racing/Cycle Gear-sponsored Honda out into an immediate lead, ahead of Miller, Brenden Murray and Jeremy Lasater. Miller started to chip away at Aker's advantage during the first few circuits of the J.B. Memorial Track until a fall dropped him back to fourth place and allowed Aker to motor away uncontested for the win. Murray crossed the line for the runner-up finish, ahead of Lasater and Miller.
Miller shot out of the gate on his Zeal Racing-backed CR125 to lead Aker and Murray in moto two. The moto was all Miller's, as he increased his lead over Aker with each passing lap. Aker's eventual second-place finish, however, was all he needed to collect the first-place trophy on the evening. Miller's 4-1 tally topped the 2-3 finishes of Murray, with Lasater going 3-4 for fourth.
Brady Fugate (105, right) turned a pair of stellar starts into a two-moto sweep of the 450 Novice ranks. Ernie Ovrid held down second place for much of the first moto until a bobble dropped him back to a fourth-place finish, behind Jay Shaaban and Tyler Reading.
Shaaban went down on the opening lap of moto two but then put in a fantastic charge all the way up into second place to claim second overall, over the 4-3 tally of Ovrid and the 3-4 score of Reading.
It's been a while since Lucky Feinstein aced the Senior Amateur ranks, but luck was on his side on this night, as he went 1-1 to get the job done. Greg McConnell went 3-2 for second in the final standings, over the 2-3 tally of Roy Krull.
Nick De George took one step closer to being a Novice-class rider, as he swept the 250 Beginner field. Thomas Spalliero kept De George honest throughout the opening race but was no match for De George in moto two. Jasun Spriggs went 3-3 on the night.
Yamaha-mounted Denny Ryan (57, left) continued his winning ways in the Super Senior Novice class, as he got to the checkers first in both motos. Art Dart and Gary Doll each picked up a runner-up finish, with Dart's coming in the tie-breaking second moto.
