Round 12: Central Alabama Motocross Park

Six Takes Two in Wetumpka

WEPTUMPKA, AL

Alex Six took two wins in Wetumpka, home of the brand-new Central Alabama Motocross Park and site of round 12 of the C.A. M. (Central Alabama Motocross) Series. Hailing from Birmingham, Six rode his Yamaha mini to wins in the 85 (12-13) and 85 Open/Supermini classes.

Promoter Adam Pinkard's course was designed by Greg Cole of Southern Dirt Designs. Located in a small valley, it includes several uphill/downhill sections and jumps that have gradual approaches and landings. There are several sets of bleachers on the upper level that offer viewing of 95 percent of the track. Pinkard has already expanded the parking area and is in the process of bringing in lights for night racing.

The 85 Open/Supermini class included a pair of riders that pulled double duty over the weekend. Tyler Blankenship and Mariah McNeill raced at a track in north Alabama on Saturday night before making their way to this race. Six had the only blue machine on the gate, and he swept both motos. Devon Watkins edged Blankenship for second, 3-2 to 2-3. McNeill placed fourth, over Noah Winfield.

Three age groups made up the 85 class. In the 7-11 portion, Winfield topped fellow KTM rider Will Harrison, 2-1 to 1-2. Six was perfect in the 12-13 ranks, over KX-mounted Logan Nichols' 2-2 tally. In the 14-15 age group, a 2-1 tally gave Watkins the victory when first-moto winner Blankenship was a DNS for heat two.

Title contender Reggie Bearden tasted victory in the Lites D class with a 1-2 score. Jordan Ellison (3-1), Justin Goss (2-3) and Jared Sloan (5-4) captured the next three positions.

Tuscaloosa, Alabama's Blake Ander topped a pair of classes. In the 65 (7-9) class, he tallied 3-1 moto finishes to lead a Kawasaki sweep of the top six positions. Alex Collins (4-2) squeezed out second place, over Jake Rinehart (1-5). In the Small Four-Stroke class, Ander led the way to the checkers in both heats. Lane Franks and Grant Mitchell rounded out the top three.

Wetumpka's Chris Bowers picked up a pair of wins as well. He prevailed in the Over 25 class when first-moto winner Ricky Allen went down hard while challenging him for the second-moto victory at the checkered flag. Behind Bowers (2-1), Adam Weathers (3-2) edged Allen (1-4) for second. In Over 30 action, Bowers topped both motos. Veteran Brian Robertson had the only non-red machine in the top five; he put his Suzuki into second overall with 3-2 finishes. Red riders Brian McCoy (4-3), Jared Franks (5-4) and Allen (2-DNS) rounded out the top five.

Two racers from Montgomery pulled off daily doubles of their own. Talladega Cycle Sales' Mason Cole had a nice payday in the MX A class with 1-1 finishes. In the 201-450 class, Cole used the power of his KXF450 to top Dylan Hammonds, 2-1 to 1-2. In the MX B class, Hammonds topped a fast Justin Godwin, 2-1 to 1-2. In Lites B racing, Hammonds won both motos. Byron Dillard showed good speed on his way to a 2-3 tally and second overall.
