Fortner Fast at Goshen

GOSHEN, IN

"Fast Andy" Fortner picked up another overall Fast Time award at the Goshen Iron Horsemen hillclimb on July 11.

Riding his CR500, Fortner flew over the top of the hill on his first ride in the Senior (Over 40) class in a sizzling 4.448 seconds - a time that would win the class and the overall Fast Time of the Day award. The time was startling to all, as the next-closest time was carded by Justin Trent in the 600cc Four-Stroke class. Jeff Jack was second in the Senior class with a 5.469-second run on his KX500, with Scott Petty third.

Trent enjoyed a double-win day, adding the 450cc-class win to his victory in the Four-Stroke class. Riding a 450cc Honda thumper in the 450cc class, Trent posted a fine 5.146-second run on his first ride, and then followed that up with an even better 4.921-second time on his second ride for the win. Matt Peters turned in a 5.581-second time on his KTM 380 for second place. Mike Sarver was third.

Trent brought his Honda back in the 600cc Four-Stroke class and set the class time to beat with a 5.250-second first-round time, and then carded the 4.825-second class-winning time on his second ride. Al Petty was second on his Honda in 5.539 seconds. Andrew Groth was third.

Veteran rider Jeff Jack was also a double-class winner, his first victory coming in the 200cc class, in which he topped the hill in 5.806 seconds on his KTM for the win. Kyle Galloway was second on his vintage KDX, with Charlie Gerencer third on a Honda.

Jack was also the fastest guy in the Super Senior (Over 50) class. His first-round time of 5.686 seconds was good enough for the win, but Jack improved on it himself with a 5.435-second time on his second ride. David Duncan was second in 5.993 seconds, with Tom Rollins third.

In Youth-class action, "Lightning Levi" Peters won the 50cc class, with Cline Garriott second. Charlie Gerencer took the 65cc-class win, with Andrew Fortner second. Cole Garriott was the 85cc Junior Mini-class winner, with Eathan Bartenback second. Kyle Slessman was the 85cc Senior Mini-class winner.

Cole Garriott's 6.741-second time in the 85cc Junior Mini class was also good for the Youth Fast Time of the Day.
