"Fast Andy" Fortner lived up to his nickname again at the Central Illinois Motorcycle Club's night hillclimb on June 26, taking two class wins and a second, as well as the Fast Time of the Day award. He claimed his first win in the large and fast 600cc class on his CR500 by overtaking Troy Camerer, who had taken the first-round lead with a 2.634-second time. Fortner sailed over the top in 2.527 seconds on his second ride for the win. "Dangerous Dylan" Brady claimed third on his Honda.
Fortner brought his Honda back in the Senior (Over 40) class and was even faster, posting a sizzling 2.498-second time on his first ride, which held up for both the class win and the Fast Time award. He had the top two times of the night. Mike Pulver was second on his Honda in 2.596 seconds - the third-fastest time of the night. Who says old guys can't go fast? Pat Sarver was third with a good 2.620-second time - the fifth-fastest time of the night..
Pulver got a measure of revenge, as he ruined Fortner's bid for a perfect night by taking the 400cc Stock-class win with a 2.643-second time in the second round, overtaking Fortner, who had taken the first-round lead with a 2.815-second time. Camerer claimed third.
Pulver was also a double-class winner, as he was the fastest in the Open Stock class, with a 2.665-second run on his Honda. Josh Denson was second on his Kawasaki, and Joe McGurer was third.
Both Pulver and Fortner enjoyed two wins plus a second on the night. Fortner was a bit happier, though, as he also garnered the Fast Time award.
Shay Ashworth was also a double-class winner. She upset the guys in the 200cc class by coming from behind with a fine 3.178-second time on her vintage KDX200 in the second round, snatching the win from Chris Senn, who had taken the first-round lead with a 3.417-second run on his KTM. Kyle Galloway, also on a vintage KDX, claimed third, in 3.471 seconds.
Shay's second win came in the Women's class, in which she overtook Blair Lawson in the second round with a 3.124-second time on the Youth hill. Blair had set the first-round time to beat at 3.488 seconds. Blair's mother, Becky, finished third with a 3.604-second time.
In Youth-class action, "Lightning Levi" Peters had another perfect evening, winning all three classes he entered and winning the Youth Fast Time award. Riding his National Championship 50cc KTM, he topped the Youth hill in 3.393 seconds for the win, with Dereck Bell second. In the 65cc class, Peters took the win on his KX65 in 3.460 seconds, with Reece Hutton second. Peters' 3.225-second run on his KX85 was the winning one in the 85cc Junior Mini class and set the Youth Fast Time, with Dakota "D.J." Watson a close second with a fine 3.240-second time on his Kawasaki.
