CAYUGA, IN

Fifty-one-year-old Randy "Rocketman" Trosper (above right) proved that old does not necessarily slow at the Pleasure Riders Motorcycle Club hillclimb. Trosper was perfect in the amateur competition, capturing three class wins and posting the fastest and second-fastest times of the day!

Matt Peters (above) carded an early fast time with a sizzling 3.912-second time on his first ride in the 250cc class, and that held up for most of the first round. Much later, incredibly, Trosper flew his CR500 over the top in a blistering 3.904 seconds on his first ride in the Senior (Over 40) class for that class win, setting a new Fast Time.

The buzz about an "old guy" going that fast hadn't settled down when Trosper brought his Honda to the line in the Super Senior (Over 50) class and thrilled the crowd with an even faster 3.882-second run.

Trosper wasn't done yet. Riding a stock-length CR500 in the Open Stock class, he carded a 4.115-second time on his first ride, which held up for that class win. Mike Pulver was second in 4.234 seconds, and "Big Al" Petty was third in 4.241 seconds. Trosper passed on his second rides in all three classes, claiming three class wins and the top two times in only three runs - not bad for an "old guy."

Peters was a double-class winner, adding the 600cc-class win to his 250cc victory. But it wasn't easy. His first-round time of 4.012 seconds had him down in fourth place at intermission, but he blasted over the top in 3.920 seconds on his second ride to take the lead. "Dangerous Dylan" Brady was the first-round class leader with a 3.980-second time; then, incredibly, he posted a 3.920-second ride in the second round, tying Peters for the class lead. Peters twisted the throttle a bit tighter on his tie-breaker run and flew his KX500 over the top in 3.877 seconds. Brady was fast again, but his 3.897-second run left him just two-hundredths of a second behind and in second place.

Dylan Brady (left, receiving his award from Bud Northrup) still had a great day, however, and "got even" with Peters by winning the coveted King Of The Hill award. This class - a one-run, winner-take-all race for the 10 fastest riders of the day - is sponsored by Kaleb Northrup and his www.kingofthehill.org website. The fastest of the fast rolled in for one more shot at the three-stage, 160-foot hill, and Brady was the best of the best at this point, turning a blistering 3.838-second time to claim the crown. Peters was his closest competitor with a 3.911-second run.

The Peters family had a particularly good day, as Matt's son Levi also claimed two class wins. ''Lightning" Levi Peters took the wins in the 50cc and 65cc classes, repeating his performance of the night before.

"Jammin' Joe" McGurer (top photo, left) was also a repeat double-class winner, taking the 85cc Senior Mini-class and the 125cc-class wins, as well as the Youth Fast Time award.
