Young Dan Groth (629, above) from Amboy, Illinois, was the top rider at the Central Illinois Motorcycle Club hillclimb on September 5, winning two classes and setting the overall Fast Time of the night. Riding a KTM 380, Groth had to come from behind in the 450cc class, as his 3.963-second time had him well down in fourth place at intermission, while Danny Schumann was in the lead with a 3.383-second time. In the second half, Groth flew high over the top in a sizzling 2.876 seconds to take the class lead and set the Fast Time of the night. Cody Jenner and Matt Peters posted times of 3.090 and 3.139 seconds to slip into the second- and third-place spots, respectively.
Groth topped the hill in 3.314 seconds in the 600cc Four-Stroke class on his first-round ride, and that held up all night for that class win. District 17 hillclimb director Gordon Green was his closest challenger with a very close 3.325-second time. Chris Peters claimed third.
Levi Peters, Joe McGurer and Andy Fortner all enjoyed double-win evenings.
"Lightning Levi" Peters (1N, above) took his wins in the 50cc and 65cc classes. Carrying the National number-one plate in the 50cc class, young Peters came from behind to overtake Reece Hutton in the 50cc class, posting a 3.803-second time in the second round to slip under Hutton's 4.152-second time. Braden Young took third.
In the 65cc class, Peters came from behind again, this time posting a 3.902-second time to overtake Andrew Fortner and his 4.362-second first-round run. Tori Daniels claimed the third-place trophy.
"Jammin' Joe" McGurer got his first win, and the Youth Fast Time award, in the 85cc Senior Mini class with a 3.529-second time. Joshua Blazek claimed second. McGurer's second run took the Youth Fast Time award from Dakota "D.J." Watson, who had won the 85cc Junior Mini class with a 3.566-second time, with Fortner and Leonard Bucholz IV taking second and third, respectively.
McGurer's second win came in the 125cc class via a good 3.529-second time. "Dangerous Dylan" Brady was second.
"Fast Andy" Fortner (6, above) took his first win in the 750cc class on his screaming Kawasaki two-stroke triple. His 2.930-second time was well ahead of that of runner-up Paul Hillard, who carded a 3.308-second time on his triple. Bobby Senn was third on his Yamaha twin.
Fortner got his second win in the 400cc Stock class with a 3.063-second run on his CR250 Honda. Mike Pulver was second with a 3.250-second time, and Kyle Galloway was third.
