District 15 Hare Scrambles Series
Round 5: Muddobbers Motorcycle Club

Stokley Tops Muddobbers Hare Scrambles

MATTHEWS, IN

The Muddobbers Motorcycle Club hosted the fifth round of the District 15 Hare Scrambles Series. The club has been hosting enduros for 50 years and also puts on a good hare scrambles event at the covered bridge. Trail boss Brent Floyd informed everyone at the riders' meeting that the river crossing wasn't too bad and that riders would cross the river twice per lap. The C riders had a shorter course that didn't cross the river. The 7-mile loop included an endurocross section with a steep downhill, logs and rocks.

As the riders lined up in their appropriate rows, the sun was shining brightly and temperatures were in the low 80s. All the A riders comprised the first row.

Ryan Prince led the first lap, with Andrew Stokley close behind and Light A rider Tyler Tischler in third. Prince led the first two laps, but Stokley took the lead on the third lap and held on for the win. Stokley and Prince were in a class of their own, finishing ahead of Tischler by seven minutes.

"Digital Dave" Dunnick grabbed the holeshot in the Vet B class, with Donnie "Haas" Helterbrand following close behind in second. As they approached the first river crossing, bikes were already stalled in the river and riders were having problems getting up the bank to the trail. Dunnick stalled his bike on the opposing bank; Helterbrand took the lead and others also passed Dunnick while he desperately kicked his bike to life. Helterbrand held on for his first victory in the Vet B class. Dunnick charged back — after stalling his bike a second time in the river — to finish second.

The Senior B class comprised the third row, with 25 riders. Kenny Miller beat Daniel Wolfe, both completing five laps.

Luke Wykoff grabbed the 85cc holeshot, but Matthew Sims stuffed his MSR Suzuki under him in turn one and led the rest of the way for the win, ahead of the hard-charging Anthony Wagler. There was a battle over third among Wykoff, Bernie Baker and Donnie Helterbrand; it looked like Helterbrand had them covered until he tangled with a lapper on the last lap. Wykoff finished third.

Keagen Lee (51) got the 65cc holeshot, but Michael Witowski (59/282) got the win. Lee finished second, ahead of Jesse Parr.

In the 50cc Premix class, Langdon Feltner grabbed the holeshot, with Dawson Dunnick in close pursuit. Dunnick passed Feltner on the second corner of the field section and led the pack into the woods. Dunnick's bike quit on him midway through the third lap, allowing Feltner to take the lead and hold on for the win, ahead of Tanner Gutierrez.
