Square Deal Riders' last regular season race saw Justin Velicky (12, above) take the top honors in both the Open Expert and 450 Expert classes.

The weather was perfect, but the competition was heating up for the two premier classes at the season's last regular race at SDR. The two heat races for each class would set the pace for the night's action in the mains.

The first Open Expert heat was a battle between Cam Rafferty (42B, above) and eventual feature winner Velicky. Heat two saw Shawn Clark (52B, above) and Shane Livingston swap the top spot for most of the race; Clark beat Livingston to the line to get the win.

In the first 450 Expert heat race, Clark went to the front and outlasted Gary Conklin, making it two for two for the night. The second heat saw Rafferty and Livingston battling bar to bar, with Rafferty taking the win.

And so the features were set in both classes. Clark, who was getting ready for a National in Hagerstown, Maryland, the following Saturday, was looking good on a new ride for the night.

In the Open Expert main, Velicky led the field into turn one, with Conklin, Rafferty and Clark hot on his heels. Velicky checked out, while the rest of the field worked hard for their finishing spots. Conklin was second and Rafferty was third.

In the 450 Expert main, Conklin got the holeshot and led most of the feature. Velicky had to come from midpack, battling one rider at a time. Rafferty and Clark were battling for second and third; as those two went at it, Velicky sneaked up on the two, passed them, and then set his sites on Conklin. Finally, he chased the leader down and took his second win of the night.

The Aaron Creamer Memorial race will be held on September 18 at Square Deal Riders.
