ELKO, MN
Right from the start, Turtle Racing's Wade Wessels (69, above), an Illinois-to-Minnesota transplant, showed he isn't a turtle anymore by setting the fast lap of the night, at 16.529 seconds, after making his way around "Mr. Holeshot," TBI Racing's Dan Jacobson Sr., on the exit of turn two on lap one.
Coming from last place off the start of the 20-lap main event, Tousley Motorsports-sponsored Honda jockey Dan Jacobson Jr. (44, above, leading Wessels) worked his way through the field and was closing on leader Wessels with the laps running down. Meanwhile, back in the constantly changing pack, Brisbin Plumbing's Troy Brisbin, Stud Club rider Curtis Wise, and former winner Bob's Cycle Repair/Jim & Ron's Towing's Todd Giese were battling one another. In the late laps, Wise made a pass stick on Brisbin.
With two laps to go, and with the crowd on its feet, Wessels and Jacobson Jr. worked their way through some lapped traffic cleanly.
The two front-runners eventually crossed the finish line in a close one, with Wessels just half a second ahead of Jacobson Jr. Bringing it home in third was Wise, followed by Brisbin, Giese, and TBI Racing's Dan Jacobson Sr.
Elko Speedway is a great place to go as a spectator or racer. Everything about it is new and first-class. The next race on July 3 will feature the Johnny Holm Band along with the "Eve of Destruction" event.
