Holeshot Series
Lodi Cycle Bowl

Crowley, Bauman Blast Lodi!

LODI, CA

The track and the weather were almost as hot as the racing at this two-day Lodi Cycle Bowl round of the 2010 Holeshot Series. Designed as a regional prequalifier for the 2010 AMA Amateur Grand Nationals, riders attending this event vied for race wins, five bonus points toward the Amateur Grand Nationals, and, for the overall class winners in the six premier classes, travel money to assist in making the trip to DuQuoin, Illinois, for the Grand Nationals. These riders were, to say the least, motivated.

Saturday's event ran on the smooth and fast five-eighths-mile TT track, and the out-of-towners took full advantage of the long practice sessions to get used to this blue-groove track and to get their gearing and setup perfect.2010 0529 Lodi Briar Bauman 10 vs Cole Crowley 17C

Twelve riders competed in the 250 Modified class, 11 in the 450 Modified class. In the 250 contest, Cole Crowley (17C, above) had a real battle on his hands, as Jim Monaco took the holeshot and led the first three laps. A nifty pass in the technical tree turn let Crowley take the lead, and he just never looked back. Briar Bauman (10) showed Crowley the way home in the 450 event.

Sunday's racing took place on the quarter-mile clay oval and was just as intense as the TT. Bailey Fox from Graham, Washington, drilled the 450 holeshot and led the first two laps, but the track was technical, and when Fox overshot turn two, he let Crowley and Bauman past. Bauman was now on a tear and, given just enough room in turn three, he got a wheel under Crowley to take the lead. Crowley worked Bauman for the rest of this 15-lap event, but Bauman had his bike dialed and ended up with the checkers - and the travel money.

The Lodi Motorcycle Club congratulates all of the 2010 Holeshot participants and thanks the AMA for the opportunity to participate in this National qualifier event. AMA District 36 racing returns to the Bowl on June 12 with a quarter-mile short-track event.
